Hello! My name is John Taitano and I live in Los Angeles by way of Guam, USA. I am a drummer of 11 years and have been producing music for 5. I recently obtained a Master of Music Production and Technologies Certificate from Berklee College of Music and have an Avid Certification. I work for B Real as a live sound engineer.
I offer live sound mixing which does not include gear. Digital mixers preferred for best results.
I offer mixing and mastering at reasonable rates and bundles. Note that most mixes and masters would be within the digital domain, processed through plugins of choice. I have access to analog gear, but price ranges will vary dependent on what needs to be used.
I also compose instrumentals and have an archive of original recordings, mostly a blend hip hop and electronic music. Rates vary per song.
Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.
Interview with John Taitano
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My goal in mixing audio is to always be creative. There is an art to mixing as much as the music.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Short films, tracking an EP.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. I covet the pricey analog gear, but digital plugins are top notch these days.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hip-hop, reggae, and electronic music. I am working towards expanding into other genres, so don't hesitate to contact me!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Live mixing. I do it on the daily for a internet television network. From conversations to live bands and performances live mixing is definitely my strongest skill.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: The centerpiece of my studio would be my custom PC. As a previous Mac user, I built this computer out of frustration from Apple OSX compatibility issues with popular DAWs. I use Reason 8 for composing and mixing and use Pro Tools 10 + 11 for mixing, mastering, and audio for film editing. I use Izotope Ozone 6 for mastering as well and RX4 for audio repair and restoration.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: J Dilla, The Beatles, King Tubby, Lee Scratch Perry.
