Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most common work i do is mixing and editing, sometimes adding new sounds in the song or even replace existing ones.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: 8 years. Started in Moscow in the small studio with SSL AWS9000 and somehow came in US and found Cleartrack Studio that was offering advanced engineering course, after i took a course - chef engineer Mike Jhonson called me up to join a team.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Life and presence. Clarity and volume.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Listen to a raw bounce of the mix and getting some details and trying to shape it up
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Timbaland. Dr. Dre, Danjahandz.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I think it was Consuelo Costin. Because it was complicated project to mix with 100 tracks in it and when i finally finished mixing and "mastering" client sent track to Ted Jensen to master the whole album - Consuelo liked my version of mastering better and Ted said some good words about that track too.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Mixes.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog. A lot of articles answer why.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: No promises - no disappointments
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Ability to be one on one with music.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Where are you from? - Russia
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People think that they can come and lay down 10 tracks in 2 hours and get them mixed in another 1. Thanks to "engineers" that do 1 hour mix and call it mix which i think just a raw demo.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have my favourite SSL 8000 g+ conse, pultec eq's, universal audio compressors, good set of Neve 1073/1081 eq's/pre's. Api2500, Bricasti m7 and many other things.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Combining things that can't be combined together
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop/hip-hop
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Listen to the tracks.
