Q: Analog or digital and why?

A: Today, its all about a mix of both for me. I love the convenience and recallability of digital but I truly love the sound of analog. I have also found that I like to be hands on when it comes to recording and mixing. Give me a fader to push or a pot to turn, I take any chance to get away from the mouse.

Q: What are you working on at the moment?

A: Currently I am mixing FOH for Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, CA in their Praise venue and also for City Life Church in Foothill Ranch, CA in their main worship center.

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

A: I've always felt musically inclined. I started playing the drums in 2003 and in 2009 I began producing electronic music. I very quickly wanted to start learning more about sound in general as well as the recording and mixing process. Once I started going to school for audio production, I dove way into the science of audio engineering and became obsessed with studio recording and live sound. Since graduating I have been able to do both live and studio work which has been great. I love to take any and every opportunity to grow and learn more about the craft. One thing I love is that we are in an industry that is ever changing so becoming complacent is just not an option if you are dedicated.

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: My style is fluid. I like to be able to adapt to the genre of music and the artist/band that I am working with.

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

A: I like to think I have come up with a creative way to incorporate analog outboard gear with todays digital workflow. I use a small handfull of analog gear in conjunction with plugins to get my sound. When I am recording, editing and mixing I am using Pro Tools 10 and when I get in music production mode I love using Logic 9. I also use Dynaudio BM5 mkII for mixing and KRK Rokit 6 gen2 monitors for reference.

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

A: Some of the engineers that I look up to are Andrew Scheps, Al Schmitt, David Cole, Eddie Kramer and George Massenburg.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: Wait, this is a job? But seriously, It's hard to call this work. I love that I can take an idea or recording from an artist and help them convey their vision and emotion for that project to the world.

Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

A: My promise is that you will get what you asked for, and hopefully a bit more. Oh, and goosebumps, I promise goosebumps.

Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

A: It would have to be Dave Matthews Band. I have been a huge fan for many years now. Those guys are just incredibly talented. Carter Beauford is a beast of a drummer, Dave himself is a unique guitar player, LeRoi Moore (RIP), Jeff Coffin, Boyd Tinsley, Tim Reynolds, Stefan Lessard and Rashawn Ross are all great. It would be amazing to record, mix or even tour with these guys.

Q: Can you share one music production tip?

A: I love getting creative with parallel processing.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

A: Lately I have been working with rock and gospel.
