Eric Heveron-Smith

Soulful, tasty bass & brass

Eric Heveron-Smith on SoundBetter

Versatile and melodic bass, brass, and beyond. From the stage with Postmodern Jukebox, to the studio with A.C. Newman and Jonathan Scales, to jamming in West Africa and beyond, to recording and mixing anything from singer-songwriters to full big bands, I bring pro chops and impeccable taste to your tracks. All styles, always soulful.

“The term multi-instrumentalist gets thrown around a lot these days, but Heveron-Smith earns it,” (Roc City Paper) playing upright and electric bass, trombone, and tuba on tour across 45 states and 6 Canadian provinces (plus the Netherlands and Sierra Leone) with YouTube supergroup Postmodern Jukebox, swing musicians like Gunhild Carling, Gordon Webster, and Sweet Megg, and Americana, roots and blues artists like Gabe Stillman, Miss Tess, and the Resonant Rogues. I've opened for B.B. King, Tower of Power, Jake Shimabukuro, and Keb Mo’, and played one beautiful gig with pop legend Michael McDonald.

In the studio, I have played on countless recordings by singer-songwriters, rock bands, jazz musicians, and artists across all genres, including Afrobeat, funk, soul, R&B, gospel, hip hop, math rock, folk, and pop. I have the chops to get things done, and the good taste to make sure it fits your song.

I have a wide variety of electric basses, a pro-level upright bass, and all the pedals and amps necessary to get any sound you could ask for. Endorsed by Nordstrand bass pickups.

I play trombone and tuba, and have a well-treated room with quality mics and preamps to capture fat stacks of brass in a clean and pristine way. Endorsed by Getzen trombones.

If you have specific gear needs, I have relationships with great local studios that can make it happen.
