Interview with ElectrKPrincess

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: A project that I am most proud of is my Vanity Lane project. It started from a song that I wrote while working with Westley Steele and developed into a full length fairytale and story ballet. I wrote an entire visual album with dance music based on a conceptual storyline and I also worked with talented musicians in Boston to create a version of Vanity Lane with a classical music score. We premiered the full length ballet at Harvard in 2018. I am currently working on turning it into a franchise and finishing up the visual album.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am currently working on new music as a dance music artist and working on a few collaborations with other writers.

  5. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  6. A: MacBook Pro, beats by Dre headphones, my mic and pen. That's all I need.

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: I started out as a songwriter being mentored by producers NO I.D. and LROC. NO I.D. helped me get my first rap hook placement with Killer Mike. From there I started to find my sound as a dance music/pop songwriter. I linked up with a dance music producer (Westley Steele) and we started a production/songwriting duo called The Luminary Society. We created a catalogue of demos to highlight my songwriting abilities and his production abilities in the realm of dance music. We also worked on developing my sound as a dance music artist and I started releasing short EPs and remixes as an artist. After becoming a bit discouraged, I stopped creating music for a few years. After the pandemic, I linked up with one of my good friends and old songwriting partners from college (Jae Franklin) and it sparked a renewed creativity in me to continue to follow my passion as a songwriter and dance music artist.

  9. Q: How would you describe your style?

  10. A: 80s funk/electropop/dance (think Prince, Midnight Star, Kylmaxxx and Apollonia) mixed with contemporary dance sounds (think Lizzo, Doja Cat, FKA Twigs, Phony Ppl)

  11. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  12. A: Janet Jackson, Lizzo, Missy Elliott Rihanna, Phony Ppl and Doja Cat because I really love their music as artists and I think we could make some amazing music together.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: Dance music, pop music, R&B ballads and rap hooks

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: Lyric, melody and creating distinctive harmonies.

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: I bring my unique ability to connect retro 80s dance/funk/pop with modern pop/dance sounds. I am extremely creative with how I construct my hooks and I love melody, harmonies with the contrast of talk/singing and dubbing vocals.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: I like to get the track and vibe to it first, sometimes I'll go on a drive to clear my head. My best songs come while driving so I keep my voice app open when in creative mode. I usually come up with the lyric and melody for the verse first and I construct the song from there.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: Protools, Logic Pro, AKAI LPK25 Wireless, Blue Snowball Mic, FiFine Mic, MacBook Pro

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: Janet Jackson, Prince, Aaliyah, Rihanna, Devo, Peaches, Amanda Blank, FKA Twigs, Missy Elliott, Timbaland, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Babyface, and Quincy Jones.

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: Dance Songs (Lyric and Melody) and Hooks
