Interview with Manuel Wiegran

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm not really experience working with other people. I mostly produced my own music. I have done some jobs for other people and thy liked what I did to their music. Just give me a try :-)

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: My own music.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Both.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I love to create music and to make it sound good.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: What they want me to do and what their goals are. I also try to find out about their favorite artists and how they would like to sound like.

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: An acoustic guitar.

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I wanted my music to sound great and therefore I went to audio school and learned how to record, mix and master music. I started recording myself in 2005. I finished audio school in 2017.

  15. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  16. A: Foo Fighters, because Dave Growl is a role model for me.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: Rock based music.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: I work till it sounds like it should and I always do my best. I also like to learn new skill all the time.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: I think that each person has a slightly different perception of sounds and therefore mixes from different people will all sounds differently somehow. You have to decide if you like the same idea as I do.

  25. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  26. A: As a child of the 90s I grew up with bands like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Bush and so on. During the years the list of my favorite bands increased. That means I'm not stuck in a specific type of music. I really like the sound of Butch Vig and Steve Albini.

  27. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  28. A: Typically I record, mix and master music. Mostly I do this with natural sources such like drums, guitars, pianos and vocals.
