Get your audio and music sounding the way you hear in your head!

My name is Ryan, and I would love to bring your vision for your song or album to life. I am a big believer in helping you create an incredible sounding recording/mix and helping your vision become reality without adding unwanted or unnecessary revisions. Not only am I passionate about the engineering side of music, but because I am also a musician, I understand how important it is to let the artist shine. As long as I can remember, I have been playing guitar, bass, and several other instruments and recording my own songs. I have worked in the music industry for 7 years, doing anything from recording, mixing, tuning, post production, producing, and mastering. I am always ready for a new opportunity to help artists have quality, radio-ready mixes to showcase their talent. I have worked with a variety of clients of different styles of music, but I really enjoy playing and mixing rock/heavy metal. I would love to see how I can help you bring your song or album to life!

Interview with Ryan Anderson

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: My studio is a single room 6 mic setup with a Slate ML-1 and two ML-2s. We do have a partnership with Filament Productions who has the space for full band with drums, and a vocal booth large enough for two vocalists. Pro Tools is the daw of choice for us.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: I was excited to be the producer and engineer for Collin Britt’s Introspection album. I personally thought it was good music, and being able to give input on things I though would enhance the song was cool because seeing his face at the end of the project made me proud of making good decisions.

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: Building up a client base to be able to support doing this part time!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Analog is nice when available, but especially recently digital is gotten very close to the same kind of sound.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise you will be blown away by your own music

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love working with art. Hearing something new and being able to help refine it brings me joy.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: We don’t just push faders. I help translate the song in your head to material that speakers understand.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: What has you most excited about recording this song?

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Make sure you find someone who is out FOR YOU. I’ve met plenty of engineers who kinda take over the creative process and clients are frustrated because they feel like it’s not even their song anymore.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: MacBook, Scarlett 18i20, my Snakebyte guitar, LOUD monitors, and my TH-U suite.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I have been working as audio staff for several churches over the past 7 years. Recently I’ve been the mix engineer for a church that does a weekly television program. I mix a choir and orchestra for the program as well as any other podcast and online content we may have. While that is the full time gig, I also do freelance live sound, doing monitors and audio for video for a university, and recording different projects for guys in town. My most recent project was a full album for a local musician.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Easygoing and professional

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: I would LOVE to just see Metallica’s creative process and how they engage with their engineers.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: I think the biggest production tip is be open, but stand firm in what your vision is. Don’t be afraid to try anything, but only keep it if it is what’s best for the song YOU have in mind.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: I enjoy rock/metal, but I’ve actually done more work with country, bluegrass, and worship music. I also have done a little work with pop and EDM.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: My strongest skill is being able to interpret music into files. Again my job is to simply capture YOUR creations.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: I bring the production value. You created the song, I help capture your creative vision. To me, my job is to get the idea you have in your head out of the end user’s speakers. Being an engineer with a producers mind helps me bring that value to your recordings.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: Typically for a song I like to have a short pre production meeting with some rough phone recordings, spend about 5-10minutes going over the song and planning out a recording schedule. From there we have fun in the studio, starting with rough tracks to play to if needed, then individually recording each part as needed. This is also where we might experiment with instrumentation. After all recordings are done, I take the tracks to my mix studio and mix the songs! I usually like to give updates along the way, especially if I had a more creative mix idea or an arrangement idea. You are always the boss though.

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: Chris Lord-Alge is definitely a rock mix genius and I aspire to be like him.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: I specialize in recording, mixing, and editing. I typically do full sessions with the band, but also do smaller recordings as needed
