Interview with Passa

  1. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  2. A: Where should I play, where should I stop? There are particular moments when you need specific things? Do you have a reference track for the drums? Minimal groove or more complex? Straight or shuffle? What is your main focus for the drums in the song?

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: I really like that every work is different and also my music tastes are always evolving.

  5. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  6. A: I really like the way of playing of Chris Coleman, Federico Paulovich, Dave Elitch, Jost Nickel, Aaron Spears, Thomas Pridgen, Eric Moore & more... Generally, I appreciate their natural sound and their musical approach. By the way I don't want to preclude myself from experimenting newer sounds.

  7. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  8. A: I worked on five songs for a songwriter in my town and I really appreciate the fact that he was especially happy about the final result of the mix. In that moment I realised that I should do it also for everyone else.

  9. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  10. A: I'm doing rehearsals with groups, working on live concerts and always practicing drums.

  11. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  12. A: Not for now, I can't wait to met the first one!

  13. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  14. A: Analog machines will always be a step ahead to get good quality and beautiful sounds before or after the adc/dac. However digital processing has its own pros that permits to do surgical changes and operations. The best approach is hybrid, taking the best part of both.

  15. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  16. A: I sincerely promise that I'll do all my best to offer the best musical performance and quality that fits your song.

  17. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  18. A: Generally questions are about arrangements of the drums. My answers are always "of course, we can do it!"

  19. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  20. A: Sometimes I don't seem easygoing as I am, I need a bunch of time to became confident and kind, especially with text messages. Please feel free to ask everything you want I'll be happy to satisfy or manage the request.

  21. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  22. A: Give me more informations about your projects. If you need a specific sound or a specific way of playing just write it me, we will reach the aim faster and better.

  23. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  24. A: - Ribbon mic - Audio interface - Computer - Console 1 - Headphones

  25. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  26. A: All started for producing music and contents for my projects. Now, I decide to share my music and technical knowings to produce drums also for the others.

  27. Q: How would you describe your style?

  28. A: Always looking for the right groove, keeping in mind that usually "less is more". However along the years I've developed the ability to adapt myself at different situations and styles.

  29. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  30. A: I would like to work primarily with pop projects, but I can also play some rock and funky grooves. I really like latin afro-cuban songs but unfortunately I haven't recorded a lot of these.

  31. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  32. A: Know your wheapons, always focus on your best skills and characterize your sound with quality.

  33. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  34. A: I usually work on pop-rock songs or songwriter songs. I can also program drum beats!

  35. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  36. A: The determination to conclude a work, reach a goal, or realise something that I want to do.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: I have two different Tama drumkits and one Pearl. Two have the standard dimensions of the shells and the other is smaller, for a more jazzy sound. I usually decide a specific kind of shell, drumhead, cymbal, drumstick or beater that fits well for the song. In the same way, the choice of the microphone and their location is referred to the specific work. I usually tend to obtain the most focused, natural sound of the drum.

  39. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  40. A: My aim is to add the rhythmic elements that make better the songs.

  41. Q: What's your typical work process?

  42. A: I start listening to the track and thinking about what could be played to perfect the rhythmic aspect. Then I start practicing, playing along the track and recording. The last step is to listen the takes, if they are ok I'll record the definitive take!

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I can humanize your drum tracks with the sound of a real kit. If you have special remarks, please write me about them, we will reach our goal faster and better.
