Tim Maggs on SoundBetter

Producer and DJ originally from New York.

My ultimate goal when I produce is to create a piece of music that matches the artist's intended energy and vision. In the past, I've worked with Logan Paul, Jake Paul, and most recently under the chief engineer on G-Eazy's fourth studio album. Soundbetter offers an amazing opportunity to get to know other artists, so I'm more than happy to offer my services to perspective clients.

If you have any questions whatsoever, I'd be more than happy to answer them. I look forward to working with you!

Send me an email through 'Contact' button above and I'll get back to you asap.

Interview with Tim Maggs

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Much of the work that I've done for Logan Paul has been seen by millions of people, and I would argue that is one of the most satisfying feelings.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am working on my own E.P. to be released at the end of 2021.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I would recommend Brian Chew, the engineer that hired me.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital, ONLY because I enjoy traveling and producing in different places. Otherwise, I would argue for analog all day.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise is that I will not sacrifice the quality of their project for anything else.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I like the fact that each day there is a different challenge, and no day in the studio is the same as the one before.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: The most common questions that I get are about turn around time. I will work as quickly as possible to get the product returned in a timely manner, and I can guarantee that they will be happy with the end product they receive!

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: I ask them exactly what they would like out of my production, and make sure that we are both on the same page before I begin their project!

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: I want my customers to give me as much detail as they can upfront, and not be afraid to ask for anything more when it comes to revisions.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: I would bring my laptop, Yamaha HS8's, an Akai midi-controller, an Apollo Twin interface, and an analog Mini-Moog.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I started producing early in high school, and I am now entering my senior year of college at Boston College.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: My style is a mix of modern hip hop with the same approach that an EDM producer would use, creating an interesting dynamic that is arguably unique.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: I want to work with Kanye West in his production prime due to the fact that his music was so different from anything anyone had heard before. A true creative genius.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Work fast. The more you overthink, the more an idea becomes stale and too complex.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: I typically work on pop, EDM, and most recently a majority of my work revolves around hip-hop.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: My strongest skill is the fact that I have equal strengths in producing and playing instruments.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: I bring a background of musical theory (I am trained in classical piano) into the world of EDM and Hip-Hop production. This allows for an easier work flow and more cohesive work.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: I typically like to create a vibe in my studio to make the emotional and mental work process much easier, and start with getting inspiration from other artists and reference tracks that I receive. After that, the process of creating melodies and chords makes adding a beat to my tracks much easier.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: In my studio I use my 15-inch MacBook Pro, Yamaha HS8's, an Apollo Twin interface, and an Akai midi-controller.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: My biggest inspirations are Jaycen Joshua, Manny Marroquin, Timbaland, and David Guetta.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: I typically create instrumentals for my clients to put vocals over or have me mix them into the instrumental directly. Along with this, I've done several intros for shows and podcasts, one of which is the intro for 'IMPAULSIVE' with Logan Paul.

I will allow as many revisions as needed (within reason), and my turn around time will depend on how complex the project must be.
