Frank Caputo on SoundBetter

Through the short, yet fulfilling, music career I possess, I have a large amount of motivation and dedication for success. My goal on here is to make other people's dreams come true by bringing their music to life. Whether it is helping with songwriting, being a session guitarist, or being a mixing engineer.

Hello, my name is Frank Caputo from Long Island, NY. I have my Bachelors degree from Five Towns College in Business Management with a concentration in Audio Recording Technology. There, I earned my User level certification in Pro Tools, as well as mastering my skills using Logic Pro X. I had also used mixing boards from companies like SSL, Neve, Api, Behringer, and Avid. While learning the in's and out's of studio equipment and microphones, I had become efficient in drum, guitar, bass, horn, and vocal recording in a studio setup. Working with session artists for years, as well as my own bands and solo projects, taught me a lot I needed to know about the industry. I have spent the better part of 10 years writing music before I had thought of writing for other people. Learning and studying music theory, sound design, songwriting, mixing, recording, and mastering has briefed me to be much more well rounded than my peers. I have toured and played with multiple bands within local scenes, as well as some freelance live sound work. Aside from music, I had interned at Switchblade Entertainment. A post production facility and entertainment company who worked under major TV networks. Though I am just starting out, I value my driven personality and passion for music to be above what other's have currently. Let's make music, together.

Interview with Frank Caputo

  1. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  2. A: Perspective and perseverance of never giving up. There is a certain tone I take to wanting to pursue music. As long as I am making a livable salary for my life, writing and helping produce music is all I would ever want to do. It is my dream, so you can always expect a high abundant amount of energy.

  3. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  4. A: Listen on every source of playback as possible. It is important for it to sound great on a good sound system, so that it will sound great on a phone speaker.

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: Pop-punk, hard rock, acoustic, pop, or sometimes hardcore (metal).

  7. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  8. A: Making sure something sounds original and organic as possible.

  9. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  10. A: Color, warmth, and a feeling that hopefully is different but good for the listener.

  11. Q: What's your typical work process?

  12. A: Depending on what I am doing, I like to space out the time of completing work. If I finish a job too short, I know I didn't give it the right time to breathe. If it takes too long, I realize that there needs to be new direction taken with it.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: I run a Scarlett Focusrite 18i20 with playback devices JBL 308's and AT-50's. A Komplete 25 keyboard running into a 27inch 2017 iMac. Most of my work is in the box, so I run plugin's like the Waves bundle, Izotope, Slate digital, Superior Dummer 3, GGD, JST, Fabfilter bundle, and STL Tones. For guitar, I run mostly through my Bugera or Marshall cab, while using an EVH 5150 50 watt head. My guitar's range from a Fender Tele, to a Japanese made Les Paul (Tokai), to my Schecter and Jackson 7-string guitars (as well as an acoustic of course).

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: Bands like Four Year Strong, Keep Flying, and Periphery have personally always driven my success. As well as work by Chris and Tom Lord-Alge, Dan Korneff, Will Putney, Taylor Larson, Adam Nolly Getgood and Andrew Wade.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: The most common work I am used to is lyric creation, music songwriting, guitar performance/recording, and mixing songs (occasional mastering).
