Hi! my name is Jacobo, I am a versatile drummer and percussionist from Colombia with 14 years of experience and knowledge of many popular american, latin, and world music rhythms. I would be very happy to work on your project of ANY genre! I can create the drums/ percussion parts, or I can follow the guidelines provided.
I can handle multiple instruments and styles, like:
Pop, Rock, Folk, House, Latin, Jazz, Cumbia, Salsa.
Your tracks will be professionally recorded at the popular drums and recording studio "Drumlab Studio" with AKG, Lewitt and Shure mics, using high end instruments and gear.
Drumsets: Tama Starclassic Birch/Bubinga, Pacific FS series Birch, Ludwig black Magic Snare Drum, Yamaha Steel Vintage Snare.
In order to achieve the desired sound, I carefully choose and tune the drums, then I choose and place the mics and other acoustic appliances.
Percussions: Conga, Bongo, Spanish Cajon, Shakers, Tambourine, Guiro, Guira, Cowbells, celesta, cymbals, darbuka.
Process:
First, please send me a rough track of your song. Then I will give you some suggestions about the instruments and styles I would record. Depending on the complexity of it, I will give you a rate between $40 and $120 for the job. For drumset the fixed price is $70. I usually deliver in 1-2 days.

Another great session with Jacobo... I came looking for congas on a track, but he went above and beyond and built an entire percussion arrangement that was just amazing. He's super creative and knows these instruments so well. Looking forward to the next one!

Interview with Jakogarces drums & percussion
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: 15 Years, 4 years as full time session drummer/percussionist.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Tight and not busy. Stick to the dynamics and what the song needs.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to be tour drummer or percussionist with Luis Fonsi or Manuel Turizo. I also would like to work with salsa stars, like Willie Colon and Ruben Blades.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, Rock, latin jazz, salsa, house, folk music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I am very professional at my job, in terms of communication, responsibility, honesty, punctuality. Musically, I am versatile, and tight to the tempo. I also have strong skills in drums and percussion mixing/ editing in the DAW.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I get the song without percussions, or with midi percussions. Then I suggest which percussion instruments to add, and in what style to do it. Sometimes I send examples that I recorded, or famous songs. Then I make the client an offer with the price, usually between $60 and $120, depending on the time and number of instruments. After I get the approval of the client, I record and deliver the job in the next three days maximum. Then we check if it needs revisions. Finally the client gives me his/her feedback.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: 16 input Focusrite Clarett 8preX thunderbolt (2x 8in), Lewitt, Shure, SE, AKG C414, CSF discrete preamps, Pro tools DAW. Acoustically treated studio.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Damien Schmitt, Cosito, Chris Stokes, Vinnie Colaiuta, Tony Succar, Diego Camacho, producers like Diego Torres, Juancho Valencia, Visitante
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Conga and minor percussion recording for genres like folk, pop, house, latin jazz. I also get asked for full salsa percussion recordings and live drums recording for Pop and folk.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always record the main percussion instrument (like conga or drumset) then do the other simpler instruments. Keep the fills very simple if you use many percussion instruments!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring dinamism, I can make it sound "full", I can add creative grooves, creative ways of using an instrument. I can add things that normally a producer who is not a latin percussionist, would not think about, but they would sound really good.
