Sarah Tilghman on SoundBetter

Let's make your next unforgettable hit! My specialities are writing top line and recording vocals for Pop, K-Pop & Christian Music. Most recently, I had the opportunity to write "I Cannot Let You Go" for SOOHYUN, a K-Pop artist from the group U-KISS. I look forward to collaborating with you and making something you absolutely love.

I have been writing and performing music for many years. In my personal career as an artist I've had the opportunity to write on multiple projects for Contemporary Christian & Pop music, tour and have songs on the radio.

Though I've been writing songs since the age of 15, I began top lining over the last five years working with different producers and most recently learning production myself. As a top line writer and session vocalist, I've spent most of time working on Pop, K-Pop and songs for anime films. However, I can write and record pretty much any genre you are looking for.

With your track and idea, I can write the song of your dreams!

Already have just lyrics or just melody? I'd be happy to collaborate with you and finish what you are looking for in your song.

If you need a female vocalist, I can deliver the emotional vocal performance you are looking for on your track.

Need a song ASAP? No worries, I consider my ability to quickly turn out hits a speciality.

Interview with Sarah Tilghman

  1. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  2. A: I would take my MacBook Pro, audio interface, mic, headphones and MIDI keyboard. All the simple things I would need to create!

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: I am very proud of the song I got to write for SOOHYUN " I Cannot Let You Go". This was my first publishing deal with Avex Music Publishing Japan. I was a songwriter on this project along with some other writers and producers.

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: I am currently working on creating singles and learning as much as I can about music production & mixing.

  7. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  8. A: Absolutely! Camilo Silva F Mastering, he's done mastering on a couple of my own songs and his work is stupendous!

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: I really love both. I'm not too well versed in analog, but I really like both. I work in digital. I love how user-friendly it is. I love analog because it's like a science, the intricacies of it blow my mind!

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: I promise to create something that brings your vision to life and makes you even more excited about your project. I always want my clients to be very happy with the results :)

  13. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  14. A: I love getting to hear people's stories and connecting with them about their vision. It feels like such an honor to co-create a project with someone that captures a certain feeling, experience, etc.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: What emotion/feeling are you looking to evoke? What experience or story inspired you to want to create this song? What message are you looking to get across to your listeners? What artist or song is most like the style or genre you are going for?

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: When you are looking to hire someone to help you create the song of your dreams, make sure their music makes you feel something. You put a lot of trust into who you work with and you want to make sure that you can trust what that individual can bring to the table. You have to love what you feel when you listen to a provider's music. When you love the feeling and you trust that they can create something magical, then collaboration is a really fun process.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I always dreamed of writing and performing since I was a young girl. Happy to say I've been working professionally as a songwriter and artist now for about 8 years.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: Pop music with all the catchy melodies/lyrics you love mixed with a lot of heart!

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: Though I write pop/K-Pop, in my time not spent writing music, I am usually listening to jazz music. One of my favorite artists is Gregory Porter, I'd love to work with him and write for him. He's got such smooth vocals and incredible vocal delivery on every song.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Make things you really love, sleep on it or take a little time away from your project and listen to it with fresh ears in the morning. That has made all the difference for me.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: Pop and K-Pop

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: Creating melodies!

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: Authenticity. Sometimes pop music can feel cookie cutter, but I always strive to bring melodies and lyrics that make you feel something authentic and real.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: I typically listen or read about the vision the client has for a song, let that sink in a bit and begin writing. If melodies and lyrics are needed, I usually will start writing the melody first.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: I keep it pretty simple. Laptop, audio interface and a good mic.

  37. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  38. A: Top Line, Songwriting and Vocals
