I've got a huge amount of really great vibey drums and percussion, and a nice sounding room that I work out of. I'm also lucky enough to have acquired a really nice tracking rig that sounds absolutely great! The main calls I get to record for are texture and vibe, pocket Americana, folk, and singer songwriter. I also do a lot of modern country.

I've been a professional musician for 11 years and have toured all over the world with some incredible artists. I've also been fortunate to be a sessional instructor of drumset at Brandon University. I hold a music degree in Drumset Performance.

I own 10 different drum kits that I use for tracking. Some highlights include:

70’s Gretsch
80’s Gretsch
70’s Ludwig Super Classic
60’s Ludwig Clubdate
Radioking 26” Marching Bass drum
70’s Roger’s
2 Vintage Yamaha Kits
60’s Hollywood Meazzi

Snares: Sugar Percussion, Ludwig, Camco, WFL Slingerland, C&C, Yamaha, Hollywood Meazzi, Gretsch.

My tracking rig is:

70's Yamaha PM 1000 16 Channel Console
Universal Audio 8p
Apogee Rosetta 800
Universal audio LA 610
60's Altec 1592a Preamp

Mics:

Great guy to work with. Groove based drummer.
Good communication. open to ideas. the tracks sound great. all the stems there too and no hitches.

I havent used them yet in the tracks and it will be more than 15 days before I get to it, so I cant review based on the final mix of the tunes. But theyre sounding good! Thanks again Domhnall

Cody was SUPER-PROFESSIONAL on the work done, on the communication, on stems delivered, on everything. A winning bet if your tone is around americana. He really put in the right vibe on my songs. I'm sure will work again with him.

Interview with Cody Iwasiuk

  1. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  2. A: Generally I'm tracking drums or percussion for people. I did at one point do a bunch of mixing projects as well. But these days I'm mostly holed up in my studio making noise on the kit every day!

  3. Q: What's your typical work process?

  4. A: Generally I get sent a scratch track of some sort which is often times just an acoustic and vocal. Immediately I chart the song out so I have a visual representation of the form which helps me shape the song dynamically. Next comes finding the right drums/mics for the vibe of the song. I love this part of the process. Then I'll lay a part down and send it off to get feedback. Then I make any changes.

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: Most of the work I end up tracking is Americana, folk-rock, roots, and modern country due to those predominantly being the genres in the city I live in that employ session musicians. I am however open an able to play most other styles.

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: Energy, pocket, dynamics, musicality, and unique sounds!

  9. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  10. A: My biggest inspiration is Aaron Sterling. He was one of the first people that I saw who really blended his drumming skills with his passion for engineering and finding unique sounds.

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: To fully care about their music and to always do my best.
