Jordan on SoundBetter

LA based music producer, mixing engineer, recording engineer, and songwriter responsible for over 10 millions streams across Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud.

I have been writing, producing, and mixing music for 7 years, accumulating millions of plays across Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud, and YouTube. I am a graduate of ICON Collective Music Production School and currently intern at The Fab Factory Recording Studio, home to one of the most popular Grammy winning mix engineers.

I am experienced in all aspects of creating a song from start to finish in a wide variety of genres. The most popular being indie, electronic, EDM, and pop. While mixing, I am pulling from my production skills, creatively editing elements to help your song reach its full potential. While producing, I am picking the best sounds from the start to create the perfect sound palate.

Services range from basic vocal editing and tuning to mixing and full song production. For production, songs can start from scratch or from a demo that you have created that I will build upon. Interview with Jordan

  1. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  2. A: Know what you are looking for and come ready with ideas for improvement

  3. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  4. A: MacBook Pro, Apollo Twin, Stratocaster, MIDI Keyboard, Microphone

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: When it comes to mixing, I like to start with the very basics: setting faders levels and doing basic EQ and compression to build the foundation of the mix. Most of the time, I start working in mono on a single mix cube speaker, which helps me set the stage for the rest of the process. From there I will begin to work the vocals, then will add elements back in starting with the drums and building up from there. When it comes to producing, it always changes. Sometimes all it takes is a drum beat or a chord progression to get my inspiration flowing. Other times, I may start by dissecting a reference track and make it my own. I always try to get down as many ideas as possible when I first start because that moment in time is unique and I want to take full advantage of what I am feeling.

  7. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  8. A: Kevin Parker because he is everything I aspire to be, a 100%er. He can write, he can play, he can sing, he can produce, he can mix, and he can perform.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: My home studio set up consist of Yamaha MSP5 studio monitors, an UAD Apollo Twin QUAD, a MacBook Pro with Pro Tools 12, Logic X, Ableton 10, and Sonarworks' Room Correction Software. I also have a Fender Stratocaster, Fender P-Bass, and Ibanez acoustic that I frequently use on tracks. Plug-in Effects: - Soundtoys 5 Bundle - Slate Everything Bundle - iZotope Production Bundle - Waves SSL Bundle - Antares Autone - Melodyne - NI Guitar Rig 5 Plug-in Synths: - Diva - Konakt - Nexus - Korg M1 - Serum - Sylenth1

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: Musicians: Tame Impala, Calvin Harris, Gorillaz, Daft Punk, Youngr, The xx Engineers: Luca Pretolesi, Dave Pensado, Serb Ghenea

  13. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  14. A: My own solo project.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That I do not know what I am doing.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Do you have a reference track? What don't you like about the track? How do you imagine the final version to sound? Are you open to me making creative changes that I feel are best for the track?

  19. Q: How would you describe your style?

  20. A: Indietronica

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: Trust your ears more than your eyes.

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: EDM, Pop & Indie Electronic

  25. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  26. A: It has to be a mix of both. Mixing in the box is a lot easier and efficient, however, there is not denying the warmth and color that analog can provide which is why summing though gear is a great way to keep it alive.

  27. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  28. A: To deliver a product that you will be thrilled about.

  29. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  30. A: Being able to work with music everyday.

  31. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  32. A: I have been doing this for about 6 years now. I started out DJing when I was in high school and soon started to create my own music. I moved to Los Angeles at the beginning of 2018 to start music production school and graduated at the end of the year. Now I intern at The Fab Factory and freelance while continuing to work on my own personal artist project.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Mixing

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: Mixing, Recording, & Producing
