Six tracks in and I couldn't recommend Kyle enough. He's attentive to detail, a fantastic co-writer and he always pushes me out of the box. He goes above and I never wonder if I'm going to like the final outcome, I always do. I 10/10 recommend hiring Kyle!

Kyle has been co-writing and co-producing tracks with me for my band Our Last Night for the past year and a half. He has brought a new dimension to our rock sound with his deep knowledge of pop production. He would say his wheelhouse is pop but I have heard him arrange and produce amazing pieces of music in almost every style and genre. Most importantly, when producing, the artists satisfaction is his top priority. I do not have to worry about Kyle being pushy or sensitive if we have varying opinions about a song and how it should sounds. 10/10 would suggest working with him.

I really enjoyed working with Kyle Horvath and highly recommend him. He did a great job of bringing my ideas to life, even when I didn't exactly know how to convey what I was imagining, in the correct terminology. He produced over twenty songs for me in the last year and I was very pleased with each one.

I am a very hands on artist so I loved the fact that he was willing to talk through his process and truly get to the nitty gritty on sounds and what we were trying to say in the song. Amazing co-writer & seriously talented producer. We always have fun & he makes sure that we’re working from a good place mentally. “B Ok” was the second song he produced for me and I was extremely happy with the final product.

Interview with Kyle Horvath

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: I don't know anyone else on soundbetter!

  3. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  4. A: I often get asked about mastering. I don't usually master the songs I work on, but I have an amazing mastering engineer. She does incredible work and is very affordable.

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: I generally play everything on the songs I do and mix them. I usually do a lot of writing as well. I think a lot of people don't realize that is a common thing for producers in the modern age.

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Just talk to me, I am willing to work with you on budget and time for projects I enjoy.

  9. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  10. A: Apollo, Neumann , my box of percussion instruments, Great River Pre, and a keyboard.

  11. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  12. A: There are a few lately I have felt really good about, a few years ago it was Jule Vera songs and records. That was one of my first chances to really write and produce and not be the assistant on the project. Lately there is a project called SHEE that I am pretty proud of, also the last two Our Last Night records that I got to be a part of.

  13. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  14. A: I've produced about 50 releases this year, next year is starting to shape up pretty similar. So just a lot of songs from a few different artist I enjoy working with.

  15. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  16. A: Creating.

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: 9 years. I began with a internship for a multi Grammy award winning engineer. I became his assistant for the next 3 years. I kind of left that world for a while because the band I was a part of got signed to Sony, and started heavily touring for the next 3 years. That project consumed pretty much all my time for that time being, and was just the focus. Now I've come back around to just producing and mixing. The plan was always to come back to production full time.

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: Lorde, I think Lorde's style and production in her music was a huge part of what made me shift from just being a player to focusing on production.

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: Pop music primarily, it's definitely my favorite. But I have found myself doing all kinds that I didn't expect lately.

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: Drum and bass groove, modern production, and mixing.

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: I try to bring an excitement to a song, elements that keep you interested throughout, every time there is a moment where I feel the magic of a song fading, I like to try to re-focusing the attention. But it's important to not step on the song itself in doing so.

  27. Q: What's your typical work process?

  28. A: If I am producing, I like to start with the bare bones. The song itself is the most important part, it's the core of everything. Once that is feeling really special, I like to move on to figure out the feel, the groove, etc. From there usually the song just takes me where it wants to go. It kind of has a life of it's own, you're just there to cultivate that in a way. As far as mixing goes, similar thing, I start with the foundation in drum and bass, and work my way up.

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: Production and mixing. Typically mixing unless I want to be heavily involved in a project.

  31. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  32. A: Both , sound and powerful editing.

  33. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  34. A: It’s going to sound good.

  35. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  36. A: I ask to hear their music.

  37. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  38. A: Don’t be afraid to break all the rules.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Depends on the project, for most mixing scenarios I am in a small DAW based setup. For live tracking I visit a large studio I house my gear in.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Timbaland, Tony Maserati
