Interview with DEMO AKURO

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The project I'm currently working on shows how much I've progressed as an artist and engineer. I'm extremely proud of how far I've come.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Follow me on instagram @demoakuro

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: DEMO AKURO!!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I couldn't tell you

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: That I will delivery to the best of my ability with complete transparency.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: That I discover a lot of dope songs and dope artists through doing this.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How much would a mix and master cost? £100 in my standard price How about if I have more one song? We'll work out a discount for sure.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That we can make a horrible recording sound amazing or make the artist sound like another artist. You can't make a good dish with bad ingredients.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: If the file names are named properly and the song is structured. Saves a lot of time, meaning you'll get your work back quicker

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Don't be afraid to ask as many questions as you want, you want to work without someone you trust

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Earphones! You know that feeling when you turn up to the gym and realized you left them at home? Imagine doing that in a desert. Nope. Laptop, would there be wifi though? Hotspot maybe? Samson CO1 USB Microphone, would drop a mixtape called SOS Portable Charger, does that count as gear? I need my towel for sure, deserts can be noisy. Gotta have that vocal booth.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: Seriously, just over 2 years. It started with gaming and drawing lots of anime. I drew mangas, comics and I made game montages and fan trailers on Youtube. Then I fell in love with film making, which is when I discovered I was fascinated by the arts and entertainment industry. So naturally, the music eventually found its way to me.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: This is always difficult to answer as I'm very experimental but generally intense, oriental and cinematic.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Bryson Tiller, Simply for the reason that he's my favorite artist of all time, and I would love to see what we could produce. In terms of joint live performance, Scarlxrd or Travis Scott. That would be insane.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don't be too much of a perfectionist, it slows down the creative process and is the enemy of progress. Us as artist, producers, and engineers can spend way too much time obsessing over the tiniest details and it slows our productivity.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Hip hop & RnB.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My ability to fully captivate and hold my audience throughout my pieces of work

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: An intentional and full experience. Each song has a specific goal in mind, and it's leading to my climax. The story of Demo Akuro.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: For me as an artist, the things around me inspire me the most. It starts with me either producing a beat myself, being sent to me or finding one online. Then I start with the melody, humming and seeing what works. Throw in some off the dome freestyling, clean it up, mix it up, master it. We ready to go.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Nothing too crazy. Just the tools to get the job done effectively. Sennheiser Closed Monitor Headphones for recording, mixing & mastering Rode NT1 for recording Scarlett Audio Interface

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Travis Scott, Bryson Tiller & Logic have inspired me the most.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Mixing & Mastering mostly.
