Interview with Lucius Page

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I worked on a young artist named G Soul. He is a K pop artist. He was deputing and I ended up getting his single. it landed #2 on the charts. I was happy, excited and proud of all the art work that paid off. I was the producer on the project. I ended up have 3 songs on the project. it was a lot of fun.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Right now Ive been working from project to project. Recently I worked with and artist named Jade de la fleur. She's a independent artist. She is very talented and has a bright future.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I really don't know any one here.lol

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I like both. I use both. It depends o the circumstance wether I use one or the other. Sometime its calls for me to use both.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise to my clients is to do my best no matter what.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: What i like most about my job is that i meet new people. its never really a dull moment. Because of my job I've met all types of people and it fun. I learn so mush not just musically but also socially.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Customers usually ask " If the sound comes out professional will I have a hit?" My answer to that is i don't know lol! Usually hits just come you never really know if you have one. You just do the best can with your music and put it out. From there the universe will do the rest.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: The biggest misconception about what I do is that its easy and that I can just magically make a record sound amazing in 20 min. A lot of people don't understand the process or don't even know that there is a process of trial and error that happens when creating music.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I ask them what sound are they looking for, do they have examples of the sound or demos of previous music, whats the duration of the project, what kind of budget do they have. I ask whats the goal of the project, is it to shop to labels. The list can go on. Over all I ask as many question so I can how to approach the project.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: I would tell them to know what sound they are looking for. Not every producer can help them craft the sound they are looking for. Also not to be in a rush. Rome wasn't built in a day.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: i would take my Mac,apollo, telefunken AR-51, midi keyboard, and pair of Adam speakers.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started off at Quad studios as a intern and worked my way up as a assistant. I was later picked up by a successful producer and I became is apprentice. I learned a lot from him, my first placements came from working with him. I later went out on my own and was able to make a living from music. I've been doing this for about 9/12-10 years now.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is very melodic and rhythmic.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would like to work with the next rising artist. Only because I would want to be apart of breaking that artist career. There is something say when you are very instrumental in breaking artist.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Always make room for the top line. Never over produce a record. Make sure each instrument has a reason for being in the song and not just fill up the production with unnecessary sounds.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I usually work on pop music. ex: pop R&B, pop rock etc

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is music production.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I strongly believe that the top line is most important for a song. It needs to be memorable, catchy and singable. The production is there to support the song. I believe that I help songs be the best they can be by moving out the way and letting the song shine.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: In regards to production, the client normally send a rough draft of their song and I will use it as a guis to production around the song. Sometimes I also start from scratch with the artist.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: In my studio I have an apollo 8, octo satellite with the ultimate UAD plug inn bundle. I use a nueman TLM 103 and a u87. I have many soft synths and analog synths for production.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I am a big fan of Max Martin. His contribution to music has surpassed many and I strive to achieve the level of success he acquired as a music producer.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: The most common work thats I do is music production, vocal recording and mixing.
