I had the pleasure of working with MB3 Productions on a song in the style of Pink Floyd. He has a brilliant ear, is very versatile and has great attention to detail. The mix he made blew my mind! Highly recommend working with him.

Interview with .

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Debut EP for an independent London based hiphop artist and soundtrack for a film project.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Both. They both have a place in the music production world.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: A polished commercial radio ready product.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: Creativity, experimentation and innovation.

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: That technological proliferation and resulting economics mean that anyone with a pair of headphones, a daw and a laptop can produce.

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: What is your project budget ? What is the deadline ? What are your plans regarding release of the final sound recording ? What vision and direction do you have for your song in terms of comparable commercial releases ?

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: Do your extensive research in who you would like to hire for your project. But once, you have hired them, trust in their ability and respect their creative decisions. After all, you hire a producer for "their" sound. And every good music producer has a unique sound, specific to them.

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: Apple MacBook Pro, Logic Pro X, Midi controller keyboard, Sennheiser HD800s headphones and my entire sample library.

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I started off as a piano player in school days. Moved to keyboards and synthesisers while playing with various bands during college and university days. Finally got into music production with PC based setup running Cubase. Migrated to Apple's Logic Pro and worked mostly with local talent before finally setting up my own music production studio in Surrey, UK.

  19. Q: How would you describe your style?

  20. A: Hiphop with a lot of influence from blues and progressive rock.

  21. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  22. A: Beyonce', Drake, Kanye West, Stormzy, Cardi B, DJ Khalid, Rihanna, Usher, Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry, Phil Collins, Roger Water and David Gilmour. Because they define music in the most spectacular way.

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: Less is better. Keep your music arrangement simple. It will be easier to mix the song. The track will be able to breathe and the listener will be able to pay attention to the song more than the production behind it.

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: Hiphop, trap, pop, blues and rock.

  27. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  28. A: Music arrangement.

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: A pair of trained years, over 15 years of commercial song production experience, objectivity and a polished finished product.

  31. Q: What's your typical work process?

  32. A: Each project is different. However, some of the common elements involve listening to the song idea/demo and creating an arrangement around it which best portrays the song's emotion and story. Once, I have done all the midi programming, sound design and recording, I will then sit with the client to finalise the mix strategy, by listening to comparable commercially released mixes. From there on, the song goes for final mixing and mastering. I do also sometimes help my clients develop a branding and distribution strategy for the commercial release of the song.
