Zach is incredible!
It all started with a lightning-fast positive reply to my message. I was able to discuss with him all details regarding the job, the payment conditions, etc. right away, so both of us got able to focus on the music right after.
He involved me regularly during the process and when I sent messages to him, he replied within a day.
Bottom line: Zach delivered a top-notch sounding vocal recording with extraordinary songwriting quality, a perfect fusion of him and my beat!

Interview with Zach Sorgen
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Wake The Wild - lead singer, frontman, KEYTAR!!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: TV show on NBC called Songland. Working with Ryan Tedder and Ester Dean
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Jazelle. She recommended I join
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Analog when possible. I have a few outboard synths. They're expensive though. Digital is convenient. Save presets
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: They will be satisfied
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Making music
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: NA
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I need a moment of inspiration. I don't. I can sit down and use PAST inspiration to be currently inspired.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Musical references
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Do it. Once hired I can either just do the whole thing, or I can send you the rough melody/lyric ideas and have you help guide the process for what YOU like.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Computer, headphones, preamp, mic, keyboard, speakers. Shoot that's 6! Guess I could do without the speakers but I might need those to signal for help. Come to think of it, scratch everything... 1. cell phone 2. helicopter 3. flares 4. siren 5. my cat
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Ryan Tedder of One Republic has my dream job: tour with the band while writing and producing for/with other artists
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Very musical (I have training in Jazz and Classical and understand theory) Variable depending on what my target is
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Rihanna - such an awesome personality and singer
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: All instruments should work well together as if they're having a conversation
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Popular
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Everything. But I guess melody
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Swag, musicality, real emotion
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually freestyle melody (and some sounds/words), then pick the best melodies and arrange them to fit classic verse/pre/chorus structure, then flesh out the rest of the lyrics and concept. Sometimes I start with a concept/lyric
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Neumann U-87 mic running through Avalon 737 preamp into my Duet and through Logic Pro, where I have an incredible vocal chain which I tweak depending on singer and song key/tempo/style.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Love the pop side of Top40 (Maroon 5, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, etc.) Getting more into Urban (Drake, Kendrick, Rihanna) Love neo soul and nu disco (NAO, Oliver Nelson) Grew up on jazz (Hank Mobley, Charlie Parker, Miles)
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Vocal - writing, recording (as well as comping, editing, maxing, mastering) and basic piano/synth pop chord progressions
