Jorge Arenas on SoundBetter

I am a music producer, arranger, mixing engineer and piano player based in Los Angeles, with a degree in contemporary writing and production from Berklee College of Music. I specialise in pop, indie-pop, RnB, rap and trap production, mainly working for singers and rappers. I will work hard to make your song the best it can be!

I offer:
- production: whether you have a very basic idea or a clear vision for your song, I'll work as hard as possible to turn it into the best it can be and prepare it for commercial release
-mixing and mastering: I'll try my best to bring out all the emotion of your finished song
-beat making: I have a huge library of finished beats that you can choose from and use
-programming: I'll program and design any type of sound you need in your song: synthesizers, drums, keys, vocal samples...
-vocal tuning

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

I have worked with Jorge on many projects over the years. His comprehension of a wide variety of music styles, lightening fast and thorough programming/editing chops, sustainable work ethic and patience are just a few of the many reasons why I love working with him.

Interview with Jorge Arenas

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I started playing piano at age 8 then quickly moved on to drums and started producing at age 15, so it's now been 13 years since I started producing and 8 years since I've been doing it professionally.

  3. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  4. A: I am very inspired by artists like Beyoncé, Frank Ocean, James Blake, Travis Scott, Bon Iver, Lil Uzi...

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Kate Brady is one of the most amazing artists I've worked with and she does a lot of songwriting/top-line/singing work on Soundbetter.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: That I won't stop working until I know they are satisfied.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Being able to fully immerse myself inside music and forget about everything else.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: How long it will take me to finish the work (usually about a week for production for one song, about 3-5 days for mixing), what styles I'm specialised in (hip-hop, trap, pop, indie pop).

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: That production and writing/composition are very different things. The most important part of a production work is not choosing the right snare or reverb but writing the right arrangements.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: References (either mix references or production references), overall message/goal/inspiration of the song, a deadline.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Find someone who won't stop working on your project until they know that you're satisfied.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: My laptop, a pair of speakers, some sort of midi keyboard/synth, a microphone and I guess an audio interface to connect everything together.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: I can be very versatile, but even when I work on pop I am always influenced by hip-hop, trap and RnB.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: Frank Ocean or Beyoncé because they both seem to bring together amazing teams of people and lead them with a clear vision of what they're trying to achieve.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Focus on what the artist is trying to transmit and let the voice and the lyrics be the centre of the song, don't let your production get in the way of the voice.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: I produce and mix a lot of pop and indie pop but also a lot of rap.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: I am a pretty fast worker and it's really hard for me to stop working on a song until I know that I've done the best I can do.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: My ultimate satisfaction is knowing that I've completed the vision that the artist had for the production of the song. So whatever that vision is, that's what I do my best to bring. However if the artist doesn't have a clear vision I can also communicate with them to figure out where we can take the song and have it reach its full potential.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: For mixing and mastering I usually do a first mix following the directions and references the client gives me, referencing it on different speakers and headphones, and then communicate back and forth with the client until they're satisfied with the final mix. For production I mainly do songwriting sessions with artists but here on Soundbetter I usually get vocal stems for a song and maybe some basic production tracks and I'll finish a first draft (or a couple of different drafts) of the production following the references and ideas I'm given and then go back and forth with the client until they're completely satisfied.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: I focus on production (mainly pop, indie pop, rap, trap and RnB but I'm open to a lot of genres) and mixing and mastering.
