Hamilton Belk

Pedal Steel Guitarist

Hamilton Belk on SoundBetter

I do tasteful pedal steel overdubs for country, folk, indie rock, and experimental projects. I'm a novice mixing engineer, too. Occasionally I'm asked to play bass and guitar as well.

"It's a pleasure to work with McKay. His proficiency of the pedal steel was clear from the first notes I heard him play. He's a steady, calming presence, musically & otherwise. He's both filled with good ideas and able to take direction superbly. He's able to adjust on the fly. He has a great ear. He can lay down a classic steel lick with traditional charm, but he's just as much at home running through a line of pedals and out a Leslie. He is an intangible asset."

"McKay possesses all my favorite qualities in a musician and collaborator: an impressive mix of technical prowess, a natural intuition, a willingness to approach arrangements from various angles, and a nuanced attention to the material and how his contributions can best serve it, solid reliability and generosity... It's a delight working with him! His playing is expressive yet full of subtlety and restraint; he gave such evocative and ethereal new layers to my music."
-Benedict Kupstas / Field Guides

"McKay is heavy. Some of the times we'd track Pedal Steel and I'd keep a full take, maybe the first pass. Most of the time he'd finish a take and we'd all wait a couple seconds before speaking, not to break the air. He's chill, smart and plays with a voice."
