I like to take my time to find the right sound for a song. I first look for the right effects and the overall eq of the instruments. I send this mix to you to get some feedback. The next day I start to correct any mistakes and fine-tune the mix with the feedback I received. Once again you receive this mix and I listen to it on different systems. After that we work on the song until it has reached its fullest potential. Read my reviews, all of my clients are extremely happy with my work.

Alex is a great Producer / Mixing Engineer, he is highly dedicated. He is always trying to get the most of every instrument, of every note. He is always open to suggestions and gives his input accurately to achieve a greater sound. I've worked with him in different projects through the years from radio spots to my band's (Obra Negra) rock album, always getting the best results.

Interview with Alex Bauer

Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will spend all the time needed until we are both completely satisfied.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I live in Mexico city but was fortunate to study at CSUDH, I graduated with a BA in music and audio recording in 1992 and have been producing jingles and albums ever since.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Brian Eno. I believe that he has worked on an extremely varied palette of artists and has introduced a unique sound to many of his productions.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Mixing. I like to find a unique sound for every project.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Emotions. Music evoques emotions and a bad mix can muffle what you, the artist want to convey. If I don't feel anything after I listen to a song I believe that something went wrong somewhere down the process.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: After I receive the tracks I try to establish the type of mix we are looking for. I always ask for songs you think could be a reference for the sound we are looking for. I also like hearing a rough mix so that I can hear the balance of the instruments.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I own a Sony DMX-R100 console. I love it's sound and works wonderfully as a summing board. I have Eventide, Yamaha, Sony and Lexicon outboard gear and an arsenal of plugins. I believe that combining hardware processors and plugins gives you the best of both worlds. I mix on KRK VXT8 speakers with an ERGO room correction box.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Brian Eno, Elbow, Bob Clearmountain, Patrick Watson, Bruce Swedien, Nicolas Jaar, Mark Needham, The Black keys, Bomba Estereo, Goldfrapp, David Byrne
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do a lot of audio work for Radio and TV ads including jingles which has broadened my music palette since there is no main genre to focus on, one day I am mixing a salsa jingle, the next day it's a horror score but my expertise is Mixing. When it comes to mixing, sometimes I feel I shouldn't be paid for something I enjoy so much :)
