Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

A: I usually am asked to produce and mix my clients songs. They usually have some embryo of a song and I help them flesh out their vision, whether that means going and recording live instruments at a recording studio or me making beats and programming MIDI parts. Whatever it takes. It also frequently results with me mixing the projects, although I'll gladly mix a project that I had no production or creative input in.

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

A: Danger Mouse, Greg Kurstin and Alex Da Kidd. Their variety is enviable. In a good way, though.

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

A: Mostly work in the box, when it comes to mixing. Plenty of outboard options for sounds for production, though, as well as plug in options. Komplete series.

Q: What's your typical work process?

A: It really depends on the project. Rock bands and acts like that, I usually start work pre production, rehearsing and hammering out parts before hitting the studio. Singer song writers can be more of a collaborative effort so we nail down their vision and vibe.

Q: What do you bring to a song?

A: I don't try to add stuff to songs. I listen for holes, where something needs to be. I hear what's not there, yet.

Q: What's your strongest skill?

A: Mixing. Probably because I take a producer approach to it.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

A: Electronic, alternative rock. Some dance.

Q: Can you share one music production tip?

A: Listen to a lot of music, and listen for the things that you don't consciously hear, but the things you feel. Like that little triangle sound panned to right.

Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

A: Twenty One Pilots. I love that they're not bound by genre. They just make the music they want to make.

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: Blended.

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

A: I started as a singer songwriter, also played bass in a band. I wanted to record some demos to shop, and fell in love with the recording and production process. I realized I didn't want to be a performer, but I wanted to make music. This lead me to producing local artists.

Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

A: A boat, a life jacket, a fishing pole, a casting net, and a solar powered satellite phone. I'm not a gear slut, I'm all about the "how to".

Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A: Be open and communicate.

Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

A: What their expectations are, what artists they want to sound like, or albums they appreciate on a sonic level.

Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

A: That producing is DJ-ing and remixing. Cracks me up!

Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A: How long it's going to take. Depends on how many tracks.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: Collaborating with great artists and musicians.

Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

A: I'm a slave to the songs. The music informs me, but ultimately, it's their songs.

Q: Analog or digital and why?

A: Analog is great, but digital is so much more convenient and takes up less space.

A: Not currently.

Q: What are you working on at the moment?

A: Just finished Midnight Beach LP, released July 14, 2017.

Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

A: Midnight Beach LP. I produced and mixed it. I'm proud of it because it required an employment of a lot of different production and mixing techniques. It's an eclectic album.
