Co-writing is part of every project I work on. From an entire re-write, to a change making a good song into a better one! My experience with top writers in Nashville and NY has allowed me to adapt to many different genres. On top of writing, I'm also adept at creating and singing harmonies that draw your listeners in and set you apart!
My expertise lies in the production and vocals. I've been performing, studying composition and arrangement since I was a child. There's one thing I know well, and that is to craft a song that keeps the listeners attention, while focusing on the artist's message.
I take pride in every project I work on, and want the artist’s to be as strong as my own. I commit 100% to every song I'm a part of.
If you are looking for a modern vocal sound, with sophisticated harmonies, or a more interesting chord structure and arrangement, then send over your song, and see what your song can be with a little help!

Steve is a wonderful vocalist with a great work ethic. When he took on my project, he really went to work on it and got the job done. I plan on working with him for future projects. 100% recommended.

I would recommend his services to anyone at any level of project development
Steve is a great vocalist and pianist himself, with years of experience in live/recorded sound as well as performing. He’s got a great ear, pop/rock sensibility, and is a pleasure to work with. Strongly recommend for singer-songwriters looking for feedback and collaboration on original music.
An amazing talent. A Musical Renaissance Man. He does it all, writing, playing, singing, recording, and all first rate. A total pro. It’s a delight to work with him.
Interview with MEC Music
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’d say right now I’m proud of my work on the web series called Adultish, which has garnered several festival awards and every most every other project I work on as I am quite selective. I also was a featured Vocalist and Actor in a new musical called S.A.M. Written by Philip Jiminez. Which is currently in finals on several grants. I’ve also worked on to full length albums by the hip-hop producer and artist Bliss Consciousness. I’ve also worked on several parodies that we’re not only fun but very well produced, most notably “120 km” a parody of Bruno Mars 24k magic.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Aside from my own record, I’m also working on a 12 song melody composition project along with some sound design and scoring for a new web series. I also have a composition project for a new musical being written by the talented Miriam Pultro.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: John Moores is a great person to deal with. He is patient and has great compositions to write and sing to.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both! Analog is important on the way in. One the way out, digital is king!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is this - I will make sure your original vision is always in tact, and will never fight you on something you don't want to do. I may have suggestions, and I may try and compel you to take those suggestions, but at the end of the day - it's YOUR record, and YOUR song.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love how it always comes down to the music and the sound. No matter what type of personality the artist has; when the music is the main focus, and you set ego aside - it is no longer a client/producer relationship, it is a kinship, a family.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How much do you charge? I'm not the cheapest on the block, but I give you your money's worth, guaranteed!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: You don't need a big studio to get a record-label quality sound. The vibe comes from the artist, not the space.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you/did you like about your current/past producer? What do you wish they would have done differently? What is your mission with your music?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Give providers a chance to work with your music. Try not to judge them too much on past work done for other artists; especially if those artists are not in your genre.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Cell phone (I mean, come on), My laptop, a huge battery with a solar charger, and a cooler for the drinks.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been playing, singing, producing and recording music since 9 years old; and professionally since I was 15. For a long time, I have been helping other artists, and I don't plan on stopping.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: A powerhouse vocal style with deliberate lyrics over a modern take on traditional, tried and true songwriting techniques.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Sia, Peter Gabriel, Trent Reznor, John Mayer, or Ed Sheeran or Justin Timberlake or Bruno Mars. Very different, yes I know, but I'd say I have done everything I can to bring myself to their levels on many fronts, and would love to have a session with each of them. Not only to tell them so, but to hear what they might have to say about my work.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always establish limits. Whether it's a time limit, or a limit on how many chords you are going to use for the song. Sometimes it even comes down to limiting how many notes you can use in a melody. Limits keep your creativity on point. You'll be amazed at what you can do with only 4 notes when you have no other options.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Electronic, Rock, Pop, Country, Cinematic.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Detail and speed. I'm very fast and efficient in my production technique. From producing to recording vocals. If you give me 8 hours, I can produce a top quality, full arrangement complete with treated (tuned) vocals, ready to mix.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I create interesting harmonies and compositional elements. I'm always looking to put a modern spin on traditional elements. Always blending electronic and acoustic elements. Everything from chopped vocal samples, to pitched and warped parts. Love the big cinematic sound, but often like to reign it in with a close-up minimalist vibe.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I outline and produce all instrumentals and vocal samples in Logic Pro or Ableton, because of the MIDI functionality. It allows me to get the most of the samples. I also record a scratch vocal and harmony while I produce. All vocals are done in Pro Tools because of the enhanced functionality with the Waves Soundgrid DSP system. Lots of mixing power! Lead Vocals: I try to stick to ONE amazing lead vocal, with doubles or quads to support and reinforce the part. Harmonies and BG Vox: Anywhere from 4-16 background vocals. Usually doubling or tripling each background part.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

A: The old-school artist/producers - Prince, Reznor, Dr. Dre, David Bowie, Pharrell, Timbaland, Zedd, Skrillex, David Guetta, MJ, Kendrick, Sia.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of my work is as a for-hire voice talent with co-writing and composition.
