Interview with EJ Hoskins - Hoskins Audio
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I've always looked up to Dave Grohl! Man that guy just keeps going, I really admire someone that puts that much heart and soul into his career.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: If you get to focused and get frustrated walk away and take a brain break! It always helps to clear your mind and ears periodically.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hip Hop and rock/metal, although I do love to work on any style of music! Bring on the Salsa rock pop jazz edm fusion.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Communication and being able to adapt my creative flow to help enhance someones song(s) to become what they envisioned it to be.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I feel I bring a second set of ears to the table. It really helps to have a great room that has been acoustically treated to hear the problems in a mix. I look at mastering as the final touch, sort of the cherry on top! I love being creative and its incredible rewarding bringing someones hard work together for the big finish.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: The most important thing to me is making my artists happy, after all its their song! I love when my clients give me creative input to feed off of.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use a hybrid set up of analog and digital, best of both worlds I guess.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Oh where to start? That would be a long list! To start I really look up to Andrew Scheps, he has had some groundbreaking ideas about this art form. I really look up to anyone out there making waves and trying to experiment with new ideas and concepts.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: my most common work with clients is mastering. We'll have a conversation about their ideas on where the project is going and what end product they have in mind, then the magic happens.
