Premium high-end mixing. Our mixing philosophy is that the true secret sauce of a good mix doesn’t...
The true secret sauce of a good mix doesn't actually come from us... it comes from you! Sure, we can package your track up nicely, add some cool effects and make it sound "pro". But the true essence of a great mix is actually mostly about you. The performance, song, instruments, tracking techniques and the arrangement are all important. In a perfect world, good mixing should simply highlight the good stuff and carve away the bad. Obviously, effects and enhancements are important and have their place… But sometimes finding a great mix is not about what can be added to a song, but rather what can be chipped away. Like a sculpture... the 'mix' might already be there. It just has to be 'revealed'.
Oh yeah, and the drums gotta go boom.

Jay was awesome. Got what I needed. I was detailed with what I wanted and he was also detailed in the responses. Live that. Quick and on point.
Tracks sounded awesome. Would definitely hire again. Thank you so much Jay.
I have been working with Jay for the past 6 months, all I can say is there is no one else I would like to work with the most. Jay is efficient, professional, incredible ears. He cared about my project as much as I did, he does not settle for anything less and will work on it until it's done and perfected. Jay is the man!

Jay is a true pro - efficient, communicative and fair to his clients and subcontractors. This is how all commercial jobs should run! I'll work with Jay any time.
Jay just done another amazing mix and master job on the song city lights for us, sounds amazing, we are very pleased!
Jay is one of a kind! patience and perseverance for perfection is the name of the game, and he has got it!
Top of the notch mastering engineer hands down.
After the first job I did with Jay, there was no other person to master my songs. Trust me I have mastered my last records with the greats like Howie Weinberg who did an amazing job! But Jay to me is on another level in terms of musicality and professionalism. Rock on Jay
Jay has done and excellent mix and master to our song "the hook" that we recorded in a plain home studio, it sounds like if it was recorded in a top professional studio.
All I can say is Jay is the man! Trust me I'm very picky about who I choose to work with as I'm a control freak/perfectionist. I had no worries of letting Jay do his own thing with my work, that's how much I trusted him. His ears are massive and extremely musical. This is going to be a longterm working relationship.
He is so easy to work with, and so professional. He was always in touch and willing to do what was needed. Thanks again.
Great working with Jay. He was very professional and had great communication.

Quality sound. Great communication. And very timely. Will solicit services again.
So happy with the final result of my song. Will definitely be coming for more mixing by him in the future.
Our two radio stations in the Silicon Valley haven't sounded better since Jay joined our team. I've worked in Bay Area radio for over 10 years and Jay's production is head and shoulders above everyone else's. Everything he produces is of the highest quality and his turnaround is amazingly fast. He's reliable, creative, and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend you work with Jay!
I worked with Jay the past year at Corus Toronto. Terrific producer and musician. Has a great ear for sound design and has the awards to prove it. Great personality and easy to work with. I totally endorse his work.
I've been watching, and listening, to Jay's evolution as a mixing engineer for 15 years. His development has been both meteoric and impressive.
While he has an exceptional grasp of the arsenal of plugins within his Pro Tools rig - which is all well and good - Jay's true prowess and talent lie in his ability to hear, feel & interpret music ...to bring soundscapes to life.
Worked with Jay in the past...Very easy to work with..And really enjoyed his mix...Highly recommended.
I just recently finished a project with Jay and he was fantastic!
He was extremely quick on getting me back the final mixes and I was overjoyed with the quality, sound and production level!
He hit the nail on the head with what I had envisioned for my project.
Worked with Jay on a recent project and was very pleased with his work. Great ear for detail, delivered on-time and was really easy to communicate with. Would highly recommend.
Love love love working with Jay. He is amazing! I have recorded everything from a rush demo for a pitch in 24 hrs, to a full on soon to be released EP and he always finds a way to make me look at things in a new and exciting light that I just wouldn't have thought of myself. Upfront, honest, creative, hilarious and always professional!!The best!!
Recording with Jay was a wonderful experience. He was professional, very insightful in bringing out the best performance and added the necessary edits and harmonies. The recording process was so pleasant my accompanist requested to work with him for his album. Jay's years of experience is apparent in the quality of his work and is a top choice!
Jay recorded one of my acoustic original songs, and he was awesome to work with! It was such a fun session, and he knew how to get a good performance out of me, which is one of the hardest to find qualities in a recording engineer. He guided me to get creative in the studio, and it came out sounding like gold! I would love to work with Jay again.
Jay digs into the tracks and works magic with every session. I always look forward to hearing his work. Great guy...great work!
Jay has a really amazing ear. We have worked on several songs together that I have written lyrically but needed help with arrangement and composition. There have been times when I have been set to silence listening to the mastered version of one of my songs because to me, Jay brought my vision to life.
I’ve worked with Jay on a number of music projects. Without exception Jay has always made my music better. He hears the soul of a song and brings it out both artistically and sonically. His attention to detail coupled with his love of craft make him an obvious choice for anyone looking to raise the quality of their recorded music.
I'm a voice actor who has worked with Jay on numerous projects. He is my immediate go to for any sound question or issue. He understands the science of frequencies, their interactions, results from any applied effect, etc. His mixing work on my trailer/promo material is world class. Easily among the best in the world, and a kind person as well!
Interview with Zippy Zappy Productions
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing is all we do! And we're darn proud of it! :)
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock and alternative rock mixes for bands. We've worked with tons of artists on their live sets that come into 102.1 The Edge in Toronto, Canada. Other common genres include Christian, Gospel, Pop, Acoustic Folk and more...
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Conservative when appropriate, aggressive when required. With today's technology and plugins, it's very easy to go overboard on plugins and effects. They certainly have their place, but too much of a good thing is actually a bad thing. Skillful, strategic and subtle EQ and compression moves pay big dividends. We'll squash and mangle too! Just as long as it's tasteful. :)
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: We'll share two! Less is more. And don't "over-mix". Every mix has a point of diminishing returns, where every improvement you make becomes less and less impactful until it actually starts making the mix worse. It's important to have a good feel for where that is.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Quality first, always. Revisions are no problem. Let's get it right.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Lauryn Hill. She is amazing.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: We try to get a feel for how you want the song to sound and what your personal tastes are. Your continued involvement and feedback are key to the process.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Some people think that a good mixing engineer can work wonders and make almost anything sound "pro". It's true that sometimes we can do some pretty amazing things, but the truth is... good music needs good musicians first. We can never turn bad tracks into good tracks. The real magic comes from the musicians themselves, their instruments, the song, arranging techniques, tracking techniques etc... Sure, mixing is a subtle art which requires a ton of skill and practice... but great mixes need great tracks first!
