Interview with Lazor Mixing
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I specialise in mixing in the genres of metal, rock, pop and acoustic music. I mix full albums or single songs.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Randy Staub (Espesially his work with Metallica) Brendan O'Brien (His work with Bruce Springsteen and Mastodon) Michael Ilbert (His work with In Flames)
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I mix "in the box".
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I would first listen to the unmixed song to get a feel for the song and to determine what sound direction would suit the song best. Then I would start working with the drums as a good or fitting drum sound can immediately tighten the mix up and give more clarity on what the rest of the instruments are doing. After that I would mix the rest of the instruments and leave the vocals for last as it is the main instrument and needs to cut through most.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: As a musician myself (drums, bass, guitar, keys) I have an understanding of the role each instrument should play in the mix and a passion for each of them.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is mixing
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on rock, metal, pop and acoustic/folk music.
