Rami El-Abidin on SoundBetter

Professional bassist with over 15 years of experience. I specialize in bringing songs to life with live bass that supports the music.

I'm an experienced bassist and musician who can provide top-quality bass tracks that support the music, the artist's vision, and bring a song to life. I graduated from Boston College in 2015 and began touring and recording with my band Juice. Over the years I have gained valuable experience in crafting bass parts that match the tonal and emotional palette of a song while providing a rock solid foundation on top of which the rest of the music thrives. I excel at supporting vocalists, listening, and intuitively responding so that the song's message is delivered as powerfully and clearly as possible. I can play simply and in the pocket, melodically, with Motown-style soul, or in a groovy way that makes the listener want to dance. Whatever the vision for your song is I am here to support it to the best of my abilities.

Rami is a true professional with an amazing ear for music. The track was essentially done within a matter of a few hours after a couple tweaks and the final product turned out more than perfect. Will definitely be seeking his services again.

Working with Rami was an absolute pleasure. Rami was able to implement the direction I provided while adding his own personality and creativity on the track I sent him. He was also very timely and communicative throughout the entire process. I hope to work with Rami again in the future. Highly recommend!

I have worked with Rami in studio as a co-producer/mixer/engineer on a handful of songs with his band Juice, and have to say he is spot on with locked in, tasteful parts. He has a way of lifting the song’s energy. Never ceases to impress.

100% the best bassist I’ve ever worked with. Aside from his insane technical skill, his ability to take direction and build off of different ideas makes working with him a producers dream. Definitely recommend for any project or gig.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: How do you want the listener to feel?

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: My best advice to to provide the clearest expectations that you possibly can. If you are hoping for a very specific bass style or tone, I recommend sharing your vision and providing references for what you are looking for. Alternatively, if you would like me to follow my instincts and initial impressions without any guidance please let me know!

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: SSL2+ Interface 1984 Japanese Fender P Bass Macbook Pro 1990 Japanese Fender Stratocaster Arturia MKII midi keyboard

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I began playing bass and studying jazz around the age of 14. I went to college and majored in Psychology, not thinking I would have the opportunity to continue playing music. However, I met the members of my band Juice my senior year and we've been playing ever since. I've been with the band professionally for 6 years, and i've been playing bass for over 14 years.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: John Mayer because I've been a fan for a long time!

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Add a little bit of saturation/distortion to your bass track if you want it to cut through your mix, especially on smaller speakers like on the phone.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: I'm in a band called Juice and our music ranges from alternative rock to hip-hop, funk, pop and RnB.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: My strongest skill is listening. Knowing when to play, when not to play, and how dynamically to play in response to the surrounding music.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: I bring a rock solid foundation to a song that understatedly supports the music as a whole or makes the listener want to groove.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: I believe that an artist/musician's initial instinct is often the most powerful. Accordingly, my process is to hit record and play along to the song to capture all my initial ideas. From there I spend hours listening back, analyzing the harmony, refining my takes, and playing as cleanly and supportively as possible until I've created a cohesive and smooth bass track with a beautiful tone that fits the song.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: I record using an SSL2+ audio interface directly into Logic Pro on my 2019 Macbook pro with 16GB of RAM. I use SSL Native and Waves plugins. My main bass is a 1984 Japanese Fender P bass strung with D'Addario Chromes flatwound strings. I also have a 2008 Fender American Highway One Jazz bass strung with DR Sunbeams roundwound strings. With these two basses I can achieve a beautiful sound for almost any genre of music.

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: I'm inspired by bassists like Pino Palladino, Mike League, and Sean Hurley who excel at serving the song and providing solid foundation to the music.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: I most commonly provide bass tracks for songs that are mostly complete but are missing professional sounding bass. However, I also excel at creating musical sections and chord progressions and I am happy to collaborate in creating and suggesting musical changes. My band Juice plays alternative rock, with funk, pop, RnB, and Hip-Hop influences. I also have experience playing Jazz.
