Interview with Vintage Bay Media, LLC

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I mastered The Luniz High Timez album and worked on a Snoop Dogg song when I was still a college student.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I have been doing a lot of recording and mixing work lately. With people being stuck at home in quarantine a lot of new content is being created.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes! I would recommend Ken Lewis as a composer for any type of project.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Have to use both analog and digital for seamless integration between the classic sound of analog outboard gear and the molecular precision that the latest in digital technology has to offer.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: Unlimited revisions until the mix is how the client wants it.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The customer service. Being able to help fulfill a client dreams and putting a smile on their face.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How much for...? Depending on label if major or indie. Two different rates.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Biggest misconception is the myth that "we can fix it in the mix" making any bad sounding piece of audio sound great no matter what. Even though digital tools have become really powerful over the years, audio restoration can not fix everything just yet .

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What is the goal for this project?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Make sure to have the best possible takes before bringing it into the mixing phase. Vocal recording is like sampling... you have to get it just right.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My vape pen, laptop, UA Twin interface, mic and some speakers.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I have been making music since High School before obtaining my Bachelor of Science in Digital Audio Technology (2017). Started working with some Major Label artists at 17. Have been working in Audio for over 9 years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Precise

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Would love to work with Gucci Mane or Waka Flocka since I was a big fan before I started to work on music professionally.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Less is more if you know what I mean. The art comes before the technology.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: R&B and Hip-Hop but have also worked with a few Jazz and Rocks bands.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Tracking and mixing vocals.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: What ever the producer has in mind. As an engineer its out job to make the clients vision come to life.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Make client feel at ease. Edit and then mix. Micro to macro.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Analog digital hybrid to tackle any kind of project or clients needs. Got all types of analog compressors expect for a Variable MU which we have great UA plugins emulations if needed.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Ken Lewis from NY was my inspiration growing up. Matter of fact me and my partner Sean 'Brycen' Bryson ended up making two of Kens custom computers.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Recording, Mixing, Mastering, Post Production & linear Sound Design.
