Avenue Sound Studios on SoundBetter

Great mixing and mastering is absolutely crucial in the world of music. At Avenue Sound, we believe that your song is paramount and deserves the best. Every song is different and our approach is always reflective of that. Avenue Sound is dedicated to bringing the most out of your music through powerful and affordable online mixing & mastering!

Music is more than a set of notes or lyrics. Music is an expression of emotions and experiences, and carries a purpose. Music impacts people in unexplainable ways that are truly amazing. Music starts with an idea and then travels through a process before it reaches a person's ears. This process is crucial because it brings to life a vision that exists in an artist's mind.

Mixing is what brings your song to life and is important in making your song sound like a professional one. Mixing ensures clarity and balance that captures the vision you have in your mind. This process entails EQ, compression, balancing, panning, effects, etc. Every song is different and every song will be treated in a unique way that serves and enhances the song.

Mastering is the final step in music production before duplication or distribution, and is a crucial one. It not only adds an undeniable polish to your music, but it brings the best out of it and really makes it shine. Mastering also brings your song up to commercial volume, while still retaining dynamics, so that it will compete with major label releases. Depending on your song, mastering can also entail adding overall elements, such as EQ, compression, saturation/exciters, etc. Your song will be at a radio-ready level.

Avenue Sound is affordable and turnaround time is fast. All genres welcome.

Interview with Avenue Sound Studios

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One project that comes to mind is an album I mastered for a Canadian bluegrass band. Once released, the album won Recording of the Year at the Central Canadian Bluegrass Awards. I had a great time working on this project and working with the band to achieve something we were all very proud of.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: We're always working on a wide array of styles.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: N/A

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both. There are amazing qualities in both worlds, so I don't see why there's a reason to choose one side.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise is to make their music the best it can be.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love making clients' music sound amazing and seeing them be happy and satisfied with it as well.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: One question is what type of genres we work on. The answer is any genre. We love taking on all kinds of music.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: I can't really think of any misconceptions. But I will say that we're not some big faceless studio. We're humans and it's humans that work on your music. I want to make the experience as easy and seamless as possible for you.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Depending on the project, I will ask about influences, what they have in mind/expectations, things like that.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: My advice is to simply share with me the vision you have and for us to work together achieve something great. I'm on your side and I also want the best for your music.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: I would take a guitar, laptop (with software, plugins, etc.), recording interface, microphone, and power generator (to obviously power my island studio).

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I have been a mixing and mastering engineer for 10+ years. I started as a musician (and still very much am one) and started early on learning about music production. It was something I fell in love with and still love just as much to this day.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: With mixing and mastering, my hope is that any style I have is "invisible" because of how well the processing blends with the music.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: One artist I would absolutely love to work with would be Adele. She is a powerhouse and has a timeless voice, and in my opinion represents a high standard of music artistry.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: The best music production tip is to make it all about capturing a great performance. A great performance makes mixing and mastering about enhancing something that is already really good instead of fixing things in post. From experience, situations like this always yield the best results.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: We work on all sorts of genre, ranging from rock and pop to acoustic, folk, and hip-hop.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is my ears. I've spent years training them in an invaluable way. Gear and studio equipment are only tools that I use based off what my ears are telling my brain.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring 10+ years of experience and expertise to every song I work on. This has allowed to create an intuitive studio process that brings a consistently professional quality to every song.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: My typical work process varies with each song, as well as whether I'm providing mixing and/or mastering. I also always communicate with the client ahead of time to get an idea of the vision they have for their music. It then becomes my job to hopefully exceed their expectations. So the process is centered around honoring this vision and intuitively getting the song to what I'm hearing in my head as I work on it.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: While our studio setup is continually expanding/evolving, the core setup remains relatively consistent and is a hybrid of digital and analogue. The tools we use are based on what a song's needs are, so it can vary with each project.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I'm inspired by all kinds of music from all sorts of era of music, including The Beatles, Ella Fitzgerald, U2, Adele, John Mayer, etc. As far as music production professionals, there are so many that I find inspiring, a few including Rick Rubin, Paul Epworth, Chris Lord-Alge, Manny Marroquin, and Ted Jensen.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: At Avenue Sound Studios, we offer both mixing and mastering for clients. Sometimes it's one or the other, and sometimes it's both. With whatever work I'm doing on a client's music, the aim is always to make it the best it can be.
