Alexander on SoundBetter

Hello! My name is Alexander. I'm a mixing and recording engineer from Moscow. I'm ready to work on your mix until you are 100% satisfied. I'm for a friendly approach and a productive communication during all work.

Throughout my career, I'm grateful for the cooperation with world artists like Dua Lipa, Anderson .Paak, Mike Shinoda, MC Eith, Mellow Man Ace, Stephen Ridley, as well as with Russian artists: Dmitry Malikov, Slovetsky, Kristian Kostov, Batishta, Hamil, Shym, T.Check, Sunsay, Mot, G Wylx.

It's very important for me to understand how you hear your songs or an album, what artists inspire you. As soon as I find out, you'll get what you want.
I often work with such genres of music as Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop, Acoustic music, but I'll be happy to work with artists in other genres.
Feel free to contact me with any questions. I'm always ready to answer and help with your project!

Interview with Alexander

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I work in Pro Tools and Logic Pro X. My setup consists of two pairs of monitors Adam A8x, Yamaha NS-10 and Universal Auido audio interface.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I’m ready to work on your mix until you are 100% satisfied. I'm for a friendly approach and a productive communication during all work.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Make sure your songs / production are done well. Mixing will not make a good work out of a bad track.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: A digit. It's great to have some analog devices in my arsenal, but considering the life in the 21st century, I will choose a digit. Now our life is like an instagram tape, every minute something new happens and you have to achieve the best results in a short time. Modern digital solutions have become very close in sound to analog devices and the difference is very minimal, for example, plug-ins from Universal Audio is a clear confirmation of this.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I love giving emotions. We work together with the artist, as a team and our common goal is to make millions of listeners feel different emotions, after listening to a story that is fit in 3 minutes. Perhaps, someone will remember the past, someone will make an offer, and a song will save someone from something bad.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: Some people think that you can make a good song from a bad recorded song by mixing. It doesn't happen. In an ideal world, mixing enhances the song, brings its essence and heart forward, but without changing the basis.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: Basically, I ask what they do, who influenced them, what their audience is. I get some information while working, and ultimately, it all matters, because it's really important what the song means to you, and with whom you want to make it.

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: Macbook, Pro Tools, sound card, monitors, tea

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: I’d love to work with Ed Sheeran. He is one of the few who makes real music and his songs will be sung for a long time.

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: I mainly work with pop music, hip-hop, acoustic and rock music.

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: To hear, to feel, and to be attentive to details.

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: I find the essence in the song and search for the best way of its embodiment. Most of the time I work with vocals, sometimes it's the beats / drums, the guitar, but I always do exactly what the song needs. Whether it's bright pop music, hip-hop, indie or pure acoustic song.

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: Mixing. After receiving the files, I import them into Pro Tools and make a rather rough mix. Then I confirm with the client that everything is in the right place in the project and if something is missing, we fix it. After that I point a completion date, put in to my calendar and start working. When the mixing is completed, I draw the track from the project and listen to it with fresh ears next morning. If everything sounds good through different devices (kind of «shit control»), I send the first version to the artist. If there are some comments, I mark it and we correct the mix.

  27. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  28. A: The studio I work in is located in the city center. It's not too big. I record almost everything except the drums and the piano there. Due to the quality and quantity of the projects made, in 2018 the studio became the first in Russia ambassador of Adam Audio.

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: I admire Chris Lord Alge's works, and as for the musicians, I’m inspired by John Mayer, Tommy Emmauel, Ed Sheeran, Joe Bonomassa, Eminem, Seether, JP Cooper, Stevie Wonder, Michel Jackson. If I continue, I think this list will be very long.

  31. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  32. A: I do different kinds of job. For example, in a recording studio, I act not only as a recording engineer, but also as a producer, helping to make the song more interesting. In addition, I do lots of editing, tuning and mixing songs.
