F-ETHER on SoundBetter

Pushing boundaries to offer a fresh perspective on electronic music is where I excel as an artist. Whether you're looking for something unmistakably original or a unique remix to grab a completely new audience, I can guarantee an innovative and inspiring approach to your music.

I often take an unconventional approach to writing music as a producer, beatmaker, and a remix-artist. This has brought attention to my work through several publications and created space for me to share the stage with many internationally recognized artists that have altered the understanding of what can be done in music.

In 2019 alone local publications recognized me for several 'Best of' titles. 303 Magazine noted me as 'one of the best electronic musicians Denver has to offer', and Denver Westword nominated me for the 2019 Westword Music Awards. Prior to that, Queen City Sounds and Art called me 'an experimental electronic dance music legend in the making'. In 2015 the well-known electronic publications ElektroDaily and AntennaMag commended my grand-prize-winning remix for the 2015 #Blendout Remix Contest, a national contest sponsored by Grand Marnier and Fool's Gold Records, with my entry having been hand-selected by A-Trak himself.

I have opened for international artists well-known for their unconventional approach to music and the industry itself; Flying Lotus, Great Dane, Anklepants, Dan Deacon, Noer the Boy, Moontricks, and Itchy-O are just a few on that list.

If you are looking for remixing, music production, or beatmaking that will showcase your individuality as an artist and ability thrive while doing something different, you've come to the right place.

Interview with F-ETHER

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: Brad Smalling at Evergroove Studio is the most professional and well-rounded sound engineer that I have ever met face-to-face. His knowledge of audio astounds me even more every time I see him, and his practical application is even better. I put my trust in him before anyone else in the audio industry, whether it be for mixing, mastering, or recording your newest endeavor.

  3. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  4. A: People think that a remix is a quick and dirty way to get their music into clubs and people onto the dance floor while their name flashes like a neon dream the whole way there; but the truth is that I'm not here to give you your 15 minutes of fame while people rave their way to their grave. I'm here to make your music shine in light that it's never been seen in before. I'm here to accentuate different pieces that you crafted that may not have been polished as much as the sparkly bits. I'm here to dust the corners of your well-loved song off, giving it an entirely new glow. I'm here to help people to hear your work in a way that they have never thought of it before. I'm here to be the connecting dots between you and an audience that didn't know how much they loved you.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: The biggest advice I could ever give to an artist/client looking to work with another artist is to limit your expectations. Have a guideline or general idea, yes, but don't limit yourself to what you think something should sound like. Giving an artist, musician, or remix producer enough room to express themselves is always the easiest way to let them shine. When you eat we eat, too. There are always enough seats at the table when we can prepare something beautiful together.

  7. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  8. A: Without a doubt my strongest skill as a musician is adaptability. I think that my ability to deconstruct and reconstruct what is in front of me, regardless of the genre or intention, is what really allows for me to create in such a fluid way. I love approaching something that has limitations so that we can push it to the limit of what the artist and audience understands to exist already. If you're fenced in somewhere, why wouldn't you use that existing structure to build upwards?

  9. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  10. A: As corny as it might sound, I look to my friends for inspiration a lot of the time. Being able to watch someone close to you and how they go about their own process always shines light on something new for me, and I love being able to trade knowledge with people in my circle. Aside from that I always keep an eye and an ear on the underground electronic scenes. The experimentation and innovation that comes from a place of genuine artistic striving always has so much to offer the future of music, and that is really what fuels me. I want to hear something I've never heard before so that I can dissect it, learn from it, and grow.

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: I most commonly remix songs for artists that they have already released or are planning to release in the near future. I love remixing because it is such a different process every time. Every song is so uniquely its own, so why would a remix be any different? It's a great way for me to reinterpret another artist's work, shining light on elements that may not have been the focus of their original song.
