I can write lyrics whether it's a verse, chorus, or an entire song. I can mix a melody and an entire song. I can sing male vocals. Interview with Brian Pickard

Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I worked on a song for a client and what I liked about it was that it was my first client and it had so many lessons of what not to do in the future and things that did work. I knew as I was recording this is what I was created for.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm working on my own solo material that I am hoping to release next year.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it's just a hobby.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Depends on the project and client.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be prepared to give me your story if their is no story it's hard to write and hard for the audience to connect.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My bible, a keyboard and maybe a good old cassette play I would be okay with just that.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been writing songs and singing before I could even talk. I didn't know how to write so I would take cassettes and just make up songs. It's funny to look back at them now.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Music you feel in your bones. I would say it's R&B making a comeback
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Honestly my first two would be Diane Warren and David Foster. I think they are magic together.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: When you're mixing a track, it's important to use a refrence track or tracks to help you achieve a balanced and professional sound. A refrence track is commercially released song that you can use as a benchmark for your own mix. Also choose a refrence track that is similar in style and genre to what your working on.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I'm a R&B guy all the way but I don't have tunnel vision to where I can't help another artist from another genre.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I think for me I would have to say lyrics. So many people just right words to rhyme or fit. I feel many artist force the song instead of allowing it to write it self. It leaves the audience lost and unable to connect. I bring the story that relates and the song you can feel.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A story that doesn't exist anymore, melody that tells it's own story, and help in directing you to give the song purpose.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It's really about a vibe. I could vibe of a topic, I could vibe off a drum beat, piano or whatever. It just has to be real and authentic. I think that vibe is the compass to all that.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: David Foster is my all time favorite record producer and song writer. My favorite artist is El Debarge. I also love BabyFace, Charlie Wilson, and New Edition to name a few
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do a lot of different things from writing just lyrics, whole song, mixing a song, producing a whole song or even lending my voice to a project. I’m open to help however I can in helping the project.
