Interview with Happier Productions

Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
I am especially proud of my latest work, for For Dora Pereli and my also the work on my latest EP. For Doras project I helped arrange, and produce the entire EP along with some of the best instrumental performances of my career. My own EP showcases my progression on the production, writing, sound design and arranging side.
What are you working on at the moment?
I am recording an EP for a singer-songwriter named Dora Pereli, who is a spectacular up and coming artist, as well as my own EP. I am also writing music for TV with a company called Purple Leather ENT.
Analog or digital and why?
Digital, because you have more options, and the work flow is more efficient.
What's your 'promise' to your clients?
I promise that all the recordings we do together will become one of your biggest assets as an artist, helping you reach your goals, whatever they may be.
What do you like most about your job?
I love everything about this job, meeting and getting to know my clients, the creative process and most of all helping to make your dream of how you want your music to sound a reality.
What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
Can you mix and Master? Yes I mix and master all of my recordings. Do you write music for yourself? Yes I do, I am also awn artist.
What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
That I can make any song a client writes great. I can make any song sound great, but I cant promise everyone will love the actual song.
What questions do you ask prospective clients?
What style of music do you make? Can you play any instruments, write your own lyrics or vocal melodies? who are your influences? Who do you listen to?
What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
Make sure you find someone who understands your style of music in order to make your vision a reality.
If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
I would bring my Martin acoustic, xylophone, battery operated Casio keyboard (with extra batteries), and my ukulele.
What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
I began playing guitar and piano in 2003. I began writing my own music in 2007, and producing in 2008.
How would you describe your style?
I keep a healthy, productive workflow in the studio. While keeping a friendly, laid back atmosphere with my clients.
Which artist would you like to work with and why?
Bon Iver, because his songwriting and production have inspired me throughout every stage of my career.
Can you share one music production tip?
Keep it simple.
What type of music do you usually work on?
Contemporary pop, indie, singer-songwriter, electronic, or country.
What's your strongest skill?
I can adapt to any sound or instrumentation that an artist is looking for on the fly. I do not waste time in the studio, I will always keep a healthy, productive flow and studio experience. I can be a full band to any singer-songwriter who needs piano, guitar, string, bass, or lyrical assistance.
What do you bring to a song?
I bring 10+ years of experience producing and writing guitar, piano, bass, lyrics, and vocal melodies for singer-songwriters and bands. I understand the necessary steps it takes to complete a production that you will fall in love with, and the music industry will take seriously.
What's your typical work process?
Typically I start with a guitar, piano, or vocal melody. Once i get a couple verses, and chores that I love, I will arrange into full song. Then I will write parts for all instruments (Piano, guitar, bass, strings etc.). After we have a full song that we love, I will mix and master until it sounds perfect.
Tell us about your studio setup.
I have a Martin Custom acoustic, Fender deluxe stratacaster, Squire Jazz Bass, Yamaha P-115 piano, and AKG P420 microphone. Running through M-Track interface, Logic X, Yamaha HS-5 monitors, Izotope production bundle, Izotope Ozone 7 mastering suite, and Izotope RX final mix.
What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
