"Do as much as you can, as little as possible" I am a mixing engineer and producer working for various electronic artists/labels in Switzerland. I work as a producer and sound engineer for a publishing company that produces music for movies and TV advertisements. I am also a teacher in computer audio, production and mixing.

I propose great and powerful tools to enhance, sum, mix and add the final polish to your single track, LP, EP or any other musical project.

Using a hybrid digital/analog configuration studio, the character of your track can seriously be accentuated; but always keep in mind that I am are here to make your track sounds better without changing its soul.

Interview with Ben Zuccone

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: The core of my studio is a Mac Pro Quad Core 8 Gb RAM running Logic Pro as a main sequencer. All the mixdowns are built around the full analog console CADAC manufactured in UK and delivering a transparent sound. A pair of Genelec 1031A near field is used for monitoring system. Also, Bowers & Wilkins 800 Serie 2 provide great second monitoring system with high precision to finalize the work Except for the additive eq and summing, most of the treatment is done inside of the box, I am a big fan of the API compressor 2500.

Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Collaboration, meeting new producers, discovering fresh music, talking about gear
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are the artists you like? Labels? Do you have a playlist of what you like? Tell me about how you created this track.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Come with a production you are confident with. Tell me about your taste. Print a rough mix of your session.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Most of the time, I am working on Techno, Tech-house and Pop music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: To identify the flow and the groove of your music and to prevent key elements to disappear, especially in a club environment.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Clarity, coherence, balance, punch and a second pair of ears for usefull advice
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Usually, it starts with a conversation with my client to identify the direction of my work. It is also at this moment that I clearly explain to my client the purpose of a good arrangement to achieve a good mix. Then, I prepare my ears by listening to my mix reference playlist which contains a vast selection of genres, intensity and mixes. After a first listen to the roughmix, I start with my moves. I like explaining the process to my client and the reason behind all of my actions. Indeed, l often invite him|her to take my chair and be part of the process.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I did 8 years of Piano and studied computer music and technology in Geneva. Since 10 years, I have been producing tracks in Techno, Trance and Tech-house under the name of Santis, Ben Russell and Kezon city. I have been also A/ R for two record labels based in Geneva.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Everything is linked. A good mix is, at first, a good arrangement. Too many people, especially in electronic music, tend to forget and work less on this part.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I am mixing and producing tracks for my clients. l mostly work with various electronic music artist from the Swiss scene and German scene.
