Interview with Studio 5A

Can you share one music production tip?
To bands, we would say "trust your producer". If you can't trust them, they are the wrong producer.
Analog or digital and why?
Analog console for sound and vibe, digital 'tape' machine for speed & reliability.
Tell us about your studio setup.
At the heart of our studio is a superb ex-BBC 1996 Calrec S Series console, complete with 44 outstanding mic pre's & equalisers, 8 stereo compressor inserts, 2 master buses (each with their own master bus comp's), 8 aux sends, 8 groups and Moses & Mitchell patchbays. Our vast microphone collection includes high-end pieces such as Coles & Neumann modes, industry standards such as Shure, AKG & Sennhieser, as well as more modern designs from Aston, SE Electronics etc, and retro wildcards like Reslo & Astatic mics. As keen instrumentalists, we also have a great collection of guitars, basses, drums, pianos & keyboards, and are always finding ways to optimise our room acoustics and working spaces. Our control room, main live room and vocal booth have all been designed to compliment the studio as a whole, and our in house engineers keep it all running seamlessly.
Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
We usually work with bands and songwriters throughout the recording process, including pre-production, audio engineering, production and mixing.
