Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

A: An artist named Felice LaZae was a project I did a few years ago I was a co-writer and co- producer on with Pat Olguin, who is an amazing producer and engineer, Felice has gone on to do some great things. It had a very dirty retro sound that I got to have a lot of fun with!

Q: What are you working on at the moment?

A: I am actually very involved in some development projects of two amazing singer songwriters, one is based in Los Angeles and the other is based in Chicago. A lovely country artist out of Nashville. I am also mixing a few cool projects for some up and coming artists out of Los Angeles.

Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

A: I think every one in this business has their strengths and that's the beauty of the music business, we each offer something different and that is for the client to decide what fits their project best with a producer or engineer.

Q: Analog or digital and why?

A: Both! They both have their place! There is no right answer here.

Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

A: To always get the best out of them, no matter what it takes! And to treat you like family.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: Meeting all sorts of talented people and pressing random buttons to see what happens :)

Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A: What do you like to eat? My answer is EVERYTHING! And can you help me find the sound, and the answer to that is, let's find out and have a little fun musically!

Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

A: That I have the answers to everything! The music business is always changing and I am always a student to new ideas, and technology.

Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

A: What is your time frame? Who inspires you musically? What are your favorite pastime and also current songs? What do you hear your music sounding like sonically? Can you play any instruments?

Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A: Pick some body you can become a musical family with and who really understands your vision, rather than some one who is just charging you for a service. Do not hire some one just based on credentials because at the end of the day, you have to vibe well.

Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

A: My Neve, an RCA 77 DX, a U47 or U47 type, a retro 176 and an 1176. You can cover a lot of ground with that in my opinion.

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

A: I have been doing this for 15 years, I got my start in Hip Hop working with Dolla who was on Jive at the time and slowly working my way into Pop music, starting with Disney Channel and All Star Weekend who was on Hollywood Records, and the story goes on.

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: I am very artist based, I am here to make you shine, not to leave a sonic imprint of my self on your music.

Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

A: I'd say Celine Dione, and John Mayer, I grew up loving Celine and her music, and I'm a big fan of John Mayer and where he goes musically.

Q: Can you share one music production tip?

A: Yes! Always strive to be different, and don't be afraid to try new things sonically.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

A: I usually do Pop music, Singer songwriters, Country and Adult contemporary. Every now and then I get hired for some Hip Hop or EDM projects on the mixing or engineering side.

Q: What's your strongest skill?

A: My strongest skill is being able to communicate well with who I am working with and always striving to make their vision come to life, my job is to make the song and artist shine.

Q: What do you bring to a song?

A: I bring the best out of the artist in a song, and love experimenting sonically and finding a unique sound that sets each project apart. I spend a lot of time fine tuning each part, from vocals, to music to sonics no matter how long it takes I strive to deliver the best product possible sonically, musically and vocally!

Q: What's your typical work process?

A: I typically love hearing the artists vision and listening to some music that inspires them, listen to some ideas for songs they have, and jamming out for a little while.

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

A: I run a Pro tools HD Rig and hybrid set up for mixing with a Phoenix Nicerizer MKii. I have a great selection of outboard gear, between a Vintage Neve 1081, some BAE stuff, Manley Varimu, a vintage Urei 1176, Retro 176, etc and gear is always being added to the studio. I own some awesome Mics, from a Bock 47, to a beautiful vintage RCA Type 77-DX, to a vintage Neuman km84i, a full list can be found on my webpage of all my gear and Mics. I have a pretty large sample library with over a 200 gig drum sample library, virtual instrument and plugin library, from all the UAD and waves stuff, Soundtoys, Softube, etc. I love my delux reverb, I always have random guitars in and out the studio, I like weird pedals. You can cover a lot of ground with some weird pedals.

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

A: I am a huge fan of David Foster, Diane Warren who I was lucky enough to get a chance to work with, Max Martin, John Shanks, Michael Brauer.

Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

A: I often get hired as a Producer and Songwriter, I also love developing new talent! I love finding a new sound that sets a new artist apart from everything else. I also do a lot of work as a recording engineer and mixer. I am lucky enough to own some great gear, that helps me achieve a great sound for clients. Vocal production is something else I also offer, which includes arrangements for background vocals, harmonies and any tuning and touch ups needed to make vocals real shine in your song.
