After 25 years as a Mastering Engineer with Capitol Records, Evren founded EGM (Evren Göknar Mastering) where he offers exceptional analog mastering to discerning clients.
Over his storied audio career, Evren has established himself as a top-tier mastering engineer, and was awarded a Grammy® Award for the “Gathering Of Nations” album (Best Native American Music Album - 2011). He exclusively masters the songs for NBC’s hit television show The Voice and also Songland. He has mastered projects for notable acts such as KISS, Smashing Pumpkins, Mariah Carey (“Loverboy” RIAA Gold, Billboard #1 Single), The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lenny Kravitz, Jimmy Eat World, Iggy Pop, Heart, Megadeth, George Clinton, Eazy E, N.W.A and George Thorogood. Interview with Evren Göknar
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: EGM is a room-in-room designed studio with isolated electrical power, independent grounding, 20AMP breakers so the high-current equipment can reproduce sound dynamics effectively. There are acoustical treatments to optimize critical listening. I listen to full-range main speakers (Tannoy) with a sub-woofer (Velodyne) for the low octave in the music. I use a three-zone mastering setup with a playback computer, and unbalanced analog mastering chain, and a record computer. I use mastering-specific outboard equipment by Manley, Lavry, t.c. electronic and Magic Death Eye along with specialized plugins.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Music is the driving passion of my life. I'm fortunate to have worked on so many legendary recordings over my 25+ year career that I'm inspired by everyone from Nat Cole to The Beatles to Punk, Indie and post-grunge rock bands to Hotel Cafe Singer/Songwriters to Jazz, solo instrument, Orchestral to Polished Pop like Ariana Grande to the up-and-coming songwriters, artists, musicians, engineers and producers whose work I have the privilege to work on!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: My clients seek me out for the highest level of professional audio mastering. This includes mix evaluations before mastering and genre contextualizations and references once the project is completed. My clients love reading short summaries of my impressions of their music.

There were only (4) of these made and I was one of the original users at Capitol Records. Great sounding variable tube gain compressor for bus, group master or individual track applications. UAD reached out so I looked back at my EQ notes and came up with many of the presets for the plugin. A great tool for the arsenal!
