Arthur Azoubel

Remote drummer, mix & master

Arthur Azoubel on SoundBetter

More than 15 years as a live and studio drummer and 5 year' experience in mixing and mastering. As a professional, I can offer you an unique feel, active listening, open minded, easy communication and the proper technique for the project, delivering the required sensitivity and emotional charge your work needs. I simply love what I do!

As a drummer, I can provide mixed or raw tracks for your BLUES, ROCK, POP, FUNK, COUNTRY or ALTERNATIVE (and similar) song using Logic Pro DAW, a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 Audio Interface with 8 channels and a great selection of dynamic and condenser microphones within 5 business days after the final adjustments regarding build ups and arrangements for the specific song.
As a mixing and master engineer I can offer 100% IN THE BOX services using Logic Pro software, Slate Digital, Waves, Valhalla and FabFilter plugins with an estimate deliver of 5-10 days, depending on the complexity of the work, and, of course, some recalls as you wish!
I can also add some synths like pads, keys and organs from Arturia, EastWest, and Kontakt Softwares if you ask but nothing too complicated, since it's not my main instrument.
Drumming wise, I have a good background in blues (shuffles, slows, boogies, train beats, mambo beats), in rock (all around), in soul music, funk and pop styles, but I'm pretty familiar with some alternative drumming too, so, don't hesitate to ask. With a good communication we can make it happen!

Interview with Arthur Azoubel

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Analog AND digital, because they complement each other

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I'll give you exactly what you'd hope for

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: The creative flow and knowing that I'm working on someone's dream

  7. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  8. A: How long will you take? My answer is "how good do you want it to be?"

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: People TEND to think I'm a melody/harmony composer and producer, but that's not my work. I do the drums/synths on a finished composition

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: What are some of your musical influences, what do you wanna achieve with this song, how do you want the song to sound, what's your max budget to get it done and why the hell do you need a drummer for that?

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: An acoustic guitar, a computer, an audio interface, a microphone and a headphone

  15. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  16. A: Vince Gill, because he's such a BRILLIANT musician all around

  17. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  18. A: A bad musician can sound good under expensive microphones. A good musician will always sound good under cheap microphones

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: Often some blues, country and classic rock, but I do a lot of dream pop and alternative stuff also

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: Soft feel, active listening, knowing what the song really needs without busying it too much. I usually create and play FOR the artist. I'm just a side man!

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: My unique playing, my 15' year experience with other musicians in live and studio gigs and my musical and creativity background

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: Client sends me the song with two reference tracks to work on some ideas, drum/synth patterns, fills, build ups and the sound aesthetics he/she is looking for the song. The song can be a demo version within a final BPM click and programmed drum to use as a guide

  27. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  28. A: I have a Pearl Decade maple drum set (18/12/14), some modern and vintage snares, Istanbul Agop Cymbals, Focusrite Saffire Pro audio interface with 8 channels, Logic Pro DAW, Slate Digital, Waves, FabFilters plugins Arturia MIDI Controller, SparkLE Drum Machine, M-AUDIO Monitors, Rode, SHure and Sennheiser Microphones

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: I have a wide influence on my playing and creativity. As a drummer, I really admire musicians such as Jeff Porcaro, Steve Jordan, Chris Layton, Aaron Sterling, Bernard Purdie, Steve Gadd, Ringo Starr, Jim Keltner, Joey Waronker and so on. As a mix and producer, I'm influenced a lot by the synth pop, dream pop and alternative rock styles.

  31. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  32. A: I work as a drummer, synth player, audio editor, mix and master engineer. I create drum/synth parts for the song, track and record them, sending as mixed tracks or raw tracks, depending on the client needs.
