Kenji was super kind and supportive with an amazing work ethic. It was a very high quality production and he took notes well on everything I asked for. Also, he's extremely organized and professional and that made it so much easier to work with him too. I'm very pleased with Kenji and I'm looking forward to working with him again!

Interview with Kenji

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm a multi-task professional and I'm working on composition, production, editing & engineering of music albums, video-game soundtracks and audio projects like podcasts, vlogs & radios shows.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: Effort and attention to every request.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Reach out to me with a goal; we'll develop the path to it together. But it's key for me that you have an idea of what you'd like to obtain so that I can put myself in the best position to eventually deliver it to you.

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: My ultimate goal is to establish myself as a full-time Sound Designer for immersive context (AR & VR). I've been in the audio and music industry for ten years now and I'm always looking for the next phase, the next venture.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Having a vision is half of the job, as you can build around it and develop a sonic universe coherent with it.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: Mostly Electronic and Urban (Hip Hop), but I happen to have a quite wide music panorama (Soundtracks, Experimental, Reggae)

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: Recognizing the strength of an idea, a concept, potential in an idea or in the artist.

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: Being versatile and working on different tasks of the Audio Industry, changes depending on the scenario. In general, I like to fully understand the client/artist vision before doing anything. Communication is a priority and vital to a positive outcome. After that, the production stage can start having clear guidelines and a path to follow. I like to constantly be in touch with my clients, especially when working remotely, as updates and confrontation are key to successful delivery.

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: I mostly work ITB with UAD system (Apollo) and plugins, although when projects budgets allow I offer hybrid and analog processing with desk Neve VR and top outboard. Headphones - Sony MDR 7056, WH1000X3 ME Mics: Neumann U87, TLM 107, KM184; RODE NTG3, AKG C414, D112, sE Electronics Gemini II, SM57, SM58, Sennheiser MD 421-II, Electro-Voice RE20. Location kit: Zoom H6, RODE BLIMP + BOOM PRO.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: The most common type of work I do is Podcast editing and engineering, crafting a quality show from RAW recordings provided by the hosts. I follow a rigid and tight editing process, proceeding with a radio type of mix and a crispy master, following Spotify and industry-standard loudness requirements.

  21. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  22. A: Both are important and useful.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: UK colors with USA groove, mixed to a strong ethnic influence.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Dr.Dre, for his perfectionism and attention to detail.

  27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  28. A: Vision, depth, color.

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: Dr.Dre, Mike Shinoda & Linkin Park-Fort Minor, Martin Gore & Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Hans Zimmer, John Williams, Jeremy Soule, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Juno Reactor, The Prodigy, London Grammar, Ramin Djawadi, Portishead, Focus..., David Arkenstone, The Game, Dj Quik.

  31. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  32. A: I like that it's firstly my passion, then it's my job.
