Will Jaxx on SoundBetter

Will Jaxx is an Urban Jazz Recording Artist & AHME Award Winner on Trombone. With over 17 years as a session player, his recording credits range from Alternative and Afro Jazz to Classical to Gospel/Jazz.

Rates are: $300/track for the first recorded part and $100/each additional layer (meaning: if you want two, three, or four different layers recorded on the same track, then it is $100 for the first layer, $100 for layer #2, $100 for layer #3, etc). If you have more than than 3 songs that need parts, then contact me for EP or Album rates.

If you don't have specific instrumental parts in mind and request that I arrange the horn lines to accompany your music, a separate arranging fee MAY apply based on the musical complexity of the project (ex. $250/per song arrangement). This does not apply to tracks where I simply solo over the music. With horn section work, I normally sketch or fully chart out parts for each instrumental voice by hand. I retain ownership of the original autographs, however copies of these handwritten horn parts/sketches can be made available to you for $75/part.

Contact me through the green button above and let's get to work.

This guy knows how to use his trombone! I never thought I'd be calling on a trombone player to lay some tracks on my upcoming album but, I did! He's really great to work with & a true musician. I love when I don't have to tell a musician what to do in a session, he just came in, listened a couple times and blessed me!

Interview with Will Jaxx

  1. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  2. A: You know, my sound has been described as a lot of things--sultry. Impactful. Laced with subtle technique. Oozing with swag. In the end, I think that I bring the sizzle, that heat.

  3. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  4. A: Tom Browne, Boney James, Jeff Bradshaw, Trombone Shorty, Joey Somerville, Ragan Whiteside, and Hott Soss.

  5. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  6. A: They primarily center around Hip-Hop & Neo-Soul, however my most recent client was an Nigerian musician that wanted me to play on his Afro Pop/Afro Jazz album. So, I have a wide palate and play a variety of sessions.

  7. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  8. A: Beyoncé. She is a professional par excellence and to work with her would be an honor.

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Ty to have the tracks you need features on as complete as possible before adding horns. That provides probably the best roadmap to making your tracks sound as good as it can.

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Have a cogent, overarching vision for your album, movie, or artistic work before you head to the studio. And don't be afraid to leave room for other creators to contribute to your work, especially the engineers. That's how good records become great.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: Boy, that's a tough one. I've been told by many clients that that I really know how to showcase an artist's talent and help elevate their sonic vision to it's highest form.

  15. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  16. A: I'm currently considering work for a documentary out of Australia and I'm also gearing up to record an album with my good friend and Afro Jazz innovator, Shola Emmanuel.
