Experimental hiphop, electronic, and pop producer, composer, and audio engineer with a knack for sound design. Inspired by the likes of SOPHIE, Arca, and Shlohmo. Self-produced artist at Dietevil and VØID. Composition heard and performed across NYC's venues. ProTools certified. 8 years experience.

I am a music producer, sound designer, composer, and audio engineer based in NYC with 8 years of experience in the production and engineering of audio content. I create a wide variety of electronic music, specializing in unique sound design and crafting narrative instrumental works.

Services include:
Music production and engineer for artists and singer/songwriters.
Composition and sound design for film, TV, dance works, and theatrical applications.
Audio editing, vocal tuning, tweaking, etc.
Live sound audio engineer.
General audio magician.

I am a transmasculine artist with a vested interest in creating space for other trans and queer artists to record and produce their music safely and with the dignity and respect it deserves.

My production spans many genres, including EDM, pop, hip-hop, and acoustic. I collaborate with artists to develop their sonic concept and throughout each step of the production process. Often, I pull environmental sounds and textures into my work to create a unique sound-bed which compliments my production and arrangement.
I am also a guitarist and vocalist.

All productions are created and mixed in ProTools 20 with a wide variety of virtual instruments. From my home studio, I record with Focusrite's Scarlett preamps and use a precise combination Melodyne Studio 5 and Antares Auto-Tune EFX+ to sweeten vocals.

Jamie has been my go to music producer/sound designer here in New York for the last 5 years. He composed an entirely original score and soundscape for several of my immersive productions: "A Walk in the Woods" staged at Prime Produce in 2018, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea & "Constellations" at The Artery in 2016 as well as sound mixing countless live cabarets I hosted at the McKittrick Hotel. Jamie is incredibly reliable, talented and easy to work with. I trust him completely with my creative vision and he's also just such a blast to be around. You won't regret hiring him!

Jamie is a fantastic artist and collaborator. He produced my first EP and a single released last year, and I am both obsessed with the music and with him! His production style was exactly what I was looking for. I appreciated how much he was able to work with me on a sound, and I always felt comfortable recording with him. I'm so excited to see where he goes!

Jamie is a brilliant artist that I had the pleasure of collaborating with on Disco Biscuits, my first full length show as an independent choreographer. He created a score incorporating disco, electronica, dark wave and synth that realized my vision of bridging the gap between the disparate worlds of clubbing and live theater. He was generous with his time and artistic efforts, and made something truly astounding. In addition to being easy to work with, he took every suggestion and idea for the score and incorporated them into something that was unique and true to him as an artist.

Jamie is a brilliant artist, I don't throw that term around so easily.
Jamie and I worked on my short film "On a Cold Dark Night" for midnightpatrolfilm released in 2018. The soundscape and complicated workings of each song created for the film elevated the material. I would get notes from people saying that the score was incredible. I agree, I think it's the best aspect of the film
Jamie's undeniable precision with creating music that lasts long after watching is important. Even when we have not worked together, I will check Jamie's soundcloud
to hear music that is inspirational.

Jamie came in at very short notice as a sound designer for our immersive production of Noirtown in NYC in August 2019. Not only was the atmospheric and evocative design excellent for our show, but it was an incredible professional relief to have someone rapidly come on board and a) immediately understand the specific artistic and technical needs of our unique production, b) engineer solutions to fit those needs, and c) provide a clear orientation to our team members and run crew on operations and execution, all within an extremely quick turnaround period. Strongly recommended.

I had the pleasure of working with Jamie on a theatrical production of my new play titled “Abnormal” which premiered at Alchemcial Studios in September of 2018. Jamie was the sound designer and the piece was greatly enhanced from his creativity and ability to create the different worlds. We were fortunate to have him on the team as he was able to be with us in the room throughout the rehearsal process which really added to the value of the show by allowing him to be so specific & precise in the queues he created. I highly recommend working with Jamie as his passion and artistry are impeccable.

I had the absolute privilege of hiring Jamie to produce an original song commissioned for a colleague's YouTube page. The song, 'To Begin', is a pop-rock, Hayley Williams-inspired tune featuring high-belting vocals and distorted acoustic guitar. This was my first time working with Jamie, and throughout the entire process, he was kind, helpful, patient, and overall a joy to collaborate with. His artistic choices blended perfectly with the vision of the song, which made my job much easier. I would recommend Jamie to anyone looking for a fun and supportive recording environment!

I had the pleasure of working with Jamie on two play productions, The Human Ear and Gruesome Playground Injuries and a short film and trailer. With all the projects, he was super collaborative and communicative in wanting to bring a collective vision of the piece to life. In our meetings, he was inspiring, creative and amenable to adjustments, new ideas. Any suggestion or reference was examined and considered. I felt so safe in his capable hands. He even came through with last-minute, tech-week, timing adjustments to an entire play score. I will always work with Jamie on any project.

I got to work with Jamie in Feb 2020 for the Emerging Choreographers Series at Laguardia Performing Arts Center. He recorded my vocals, added his own guitar, and collaborated with me to create the sound for the whole piece. Even once we were in the theater he made sure the sound ran smoothly at tech and that the timing of my live vocals and movement matched up with the recorded component. He is wonderful to work with and committed to seeing projects all the way through to the final product. He brings his expertise into the process while honoring the client’s ultimate goals.

Jamie has been my engineer on a few of my projects. Rarely have I worked with someone with the artistry, passion and commitment to their craft as much as Jamie. When working on the Manhattan School of Music's "Edwin Drood", a remote, recorded-at-home musical, Jamie performed absolute magic on wrestling 60 performers to sound like they were all actually performing together. And not just performing together, but performing together well. His in-depth knowledge of technology and wide variety of musical genre makes him a indispensable part of my team.

I had the privilege of working with Jamie on my first album, Interloper (2018, Eli B.). I brought him a very long project without many ideas for how to assemble it, and he helped me to create - and mastered beautifully - a cohesive album that really flowed. Even though we knew each other previously, he was very professional and made me feel like a respected client. His unique ideas for transitions and stitching between tracks lent a very special sound to the album, and now I can’t imagine it without them. I would recommend his work as a musician, producer and creative force to anyone.

Working with Jamie is professional, fabulous and truly enjoyable. His dedication to the craft of music is out of this world, and the way he uses music to tell a vivid story really brings life to each song. I cannot wait to work with him again.

Interview with Jamie Amadruto (Dietevil)

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Currently, I am the mix engineer for Manhattan School of Music's digital Spring production of The Drowsy Chaperone and I am finishing up the mix and audio post production for their first digital production, The Mystery of Edwin Drood. As Dietevil, I am releasing a new single February 19th. I am also taking a course to learn the ins and outs of creating music for TV and looking to add some TV placements to my resume by the end of 2021.

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: Electronic, hiphop, lofi, pop, acoustic, and singer/songwriter.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: I use a variety of condensers to record vocals and guitar through a Scarlett interface into ProTools 20. I produce with an expansive list of virtual instruments from Native Instruments Komplete bundle, thousands of sounds from sample library subscriptions, and countless digital plug-ins and FX. I use a precise combination of Antares Autotune EFX and Melodyne Studio 4 to sweeten vocals. I also record my own foley with a Zoom H4n to include in many of my productions.

  7. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  8. A: Music production, composition, and sound design.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise to bring my full self to your project. I will collaborate and communicate effectively to complete a polished, final product.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Creating evocative and emotionally moving works of sound that affect people, that get people to move their bodies, to dream, to tell a story. I know it's cheesy, but it truly is the thing I love most about this industry and my career.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: What is your project's concept? How can I best serve as your producer/engineer to aid in the facilitation of bringing your concept to life? What is your project's timeline? What is your preferred method of communication? What questions do you have for me? Can you link me to some of your past works?

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: I have 8 years of experience in the production and engineering of audio content and live events. After high school, I attended NYC's The Institute of Audio Research and graduated with a 4.0 GPA from the Audio Recording and Production program in 2013. From there, I began work as a live sound engineer at music venues and theaters across NYC. Over the years, I began to find jobs producing works of sound for dance works and theatrical applications, eventually building enough connections to sustain a majority of my income through these productions. Due to the shutdown of the live events industry from COVID-19, I turned towards my skills for audio production, mixing, and composition to find remote music production and composition work. As a self-produced artist, Dietevil, I released two albums in the year 2020. I am now driven and determined to connect and create works as a music producer and composer full time.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: SOPHIE, Arca, Shlohmo, A L E X, Eastghost, Gesaffelstein, and artists featured on channels like Majestic Casual and Monstercat. Growing up, I was inspired by bands in the punk and metal scene. My songwriting, arranging, and much of my sonic inspirations are still derived from bands the likes of Underoath, Senses Fail, My Chemical Romance, and countless others.

  19. Q: How would you describe your style?

  20. A: In all productions, I strive to create a sonic aesthetic that immediately pulls the listener out of their world and into a different one. My style tends to sways between the darker side of the electronic music spectrum and light, fruity, hyper pop. Deep synths, eclectic percussion, and an emphasis on textures and foley remain a constant in my work My arrangements always twist and turn, creating narration even in a completely instrumental work.

  21. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  22. A: I'd like to make work with Arca. Their style, brand, and ability to build an entire world within their sound is inspiring to me.

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: During the first consultation, take many detailed notes describing your gut reactions in what should happen with the production process. If you get stuck, take the notebook back out and review it. Often you will find ideas that you lost track of that will guide you through each step of the production process.

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: My aptitude for sound design is my strongest skill. I can craft a completely unique sound and style that will make your work stand out from the crowd.

Dietevil's new single, 'i really need to get out of here' is a sad, dusty, lofi hiphop track about loss, and isolation during quarantine. It's slow tempo and aggressive use of filters carefully guide the listener through it's melancholy, lonely arrangement.
