Interview with Konstantinos Margaritis

  1. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  2. A: Its not so much what I bring to the song, but mainly what I hear on each song, I let them lead me to their world and then anything is possible.

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: I usually work on some kind of acoustic or almost acoustic sets.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I guarantee 100% professional, custom and unique results.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Old or modern, analog or digital, they all have their strengths and their place, my work is to use my ears to try to understand what every song needs.

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: I'm a professional composer and performing concert guitarist; although I have the chops to play anything I want I value more my ability to realise what is good for the song and not vice versa.

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: On a desert island there is no electricity so forget about production, I think would just need my Angela Waltner classical guitar.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: Do not ask/search for tips, listen critically and do it as much as you can.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Always send a sample and a clear explanation of what you need.

  17. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  18. A: I like to create music and as a composer, guitarist and producer I have the chance to be involved in all the aspects of the musical creation.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: I lay guitar tracks for classical, acoustic, singer-songwriter and jazz acts, I work together with the artists and help them find direction, we filter out what is not working and we concentrate on their strengths. My specialty is guitar tracks, be it atmospheric pads, unique electric guitar leads, acoustic rhythm guitar or nylon string Spanish/Mediterranean inspired solos. I aim for the best sound and try to come up with great sounding parts that fit the music.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: I believe in the small details that can only by captured with high-end equipment, therfore my current setup is based around an RME ADI-2 Pro FS converter, with an AEA TRP2 preamp in the front end. Both of these are acclaimed for their crystal clear and extremely detailed sound! For microphones, my main setup is a pair of Neumann TLM193s, the sound is warm and clear, without any weird peaks, perfect for the digital recordings. I also have several other LDC, SDC and Ribbon mics that I sometimes use if I'm after a more specific sound. I have high-end handmade instruments and pedals. I'm endorsed by Port City Amplifiers and Origin Audio.

  23. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  24. A: My next solo album.
