Canvas Portfolio

I make animations frame by frame then process with my 80s analog video synthesis rig (VHS, CRT tvs, Feedback Loops). I can create stimulating after effects animations and explore analog processing with you. I also have a huge library of trippy analog video synthesis captures to pull from and offer.

My inspiration comes from the underground of electronic music, old analog studio tools, psychedelia, and archaic video technology. Droney/colorful/expressive loops are built with vintage electronics for that retro-active effect. Reflecting the vastness of the cosmos and radiating with the warmth of a million suns. Waves of 80’s flare; Nostalgic ancient feelings that bring your heart bpm to intense pulses of magnetic light. Evoking a sweet spot where the archaic becomes electrified by visions from the future, creating new feelings, thoughts and experiences. Take this psychAngelic journey, and remember that you are galactic in nature.

Electric Archaic started a long time ago in an experimental home studio environment. Always on a quest to conjure unique sound and light wave expressions. Experimentation combined with experience and wisdom are a key alchemy when it comes to creating content that can really reach and teach others. Being a music producer as long as I've been a visual artist lends itself to the merging of the two mediums. you've got to feel the sound, see the light as one in order to be accelerated into the higher landscapes of mental perception.

I have a whole ecosystem of strange/vintage analog video kit thats ready to be put to work for your new sounds. I specialize in colorful and intense visual material, let's get in touch and see it!

Jonah made me a canvas I'm over the moon about. I was rushing to get one within days of my release and he got it to in perfect timing. The canvas I couldn't be happier with, super cool design. He asked me a lot of questions regarding what I wanted but in the end I said "just do your thing I trust your vision for it" and I'm glad I did.

Jonah aka Electric Archaic is a top-knotch and highly skilled creative and I was so lucky to get him on the visual side of my developing sound. I told him I wanted a hybridized analog-focused psych-nostalgia and be delivered me something I thought was next to impossible. It has added so much to my narrative as an artist to have his assistance and I recommend him as a provider to all my creative friends. He works conscientiously, is a perfectionist about u dee standing artist vision and translating it to a polished work of art!! Thank you electric archaic for helping me develop my art!!!!

Interview with Jonah Electric

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I am especially proud of my analog video rig, and all of the hurdles I've overcome throughout the journey. I've been able to create some of the most inspiring video synthesis techniques and I've created things i could never have dreamed up without all of the hard work and patience with old VHS cameras and CRT tvs.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: At any given time I have at least 7,492 projects going on. They are each like little planetesimals flying around me, but to name a few of the big ones: Im always working on my own music production, video effects and animations, electronics engineering, graphic design and trying to teach and inspire others.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Im new here :)

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Analog sound/video source + digital editing. Analog has a warmth and richness combined with unexpected surprises. Digital is efficient and precise when it comes to arranging and editing.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will always do my best to produce something unique and interesting.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love that i get to work creatively with light and sound everyday, these worlds are infinite and I am always pushing some boundary or another when it comes to progressing my creative skills.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Usually clients have seen my work and are satisfied with the direction I take projects. Tweaks and adjustments along the way are natural, I'm easy going and open to client feedback/desires.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: I think it's generally difficult for others to understand exactly what it is that I do, I don't even know most of the time. My point is that magic cannot be synthesized with a formula... Experimentation amplifies intentions and exceeds expectations more than not, so thats usually where I start.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Whats your favorite color? What planet are you from? What sort of message do you have for this world?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Give a direction, send a sample of your work, and let the provider come up with something fresh based of the vibes your content emits.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: LOL Yamaha CS-80, Roland TR-909, Roland TB-303, Roland TR-808, and a Macbook w/ Ableton... Dang I forgot my audio interface, a mixer, and speakers :{

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I grew up in my father's recording studio, so pretty much my entire life has been revolving to some degree around producing music and visuals.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Psychedelic, freaky, intense, light in the dark, or as I love to call it "PsychAngelic"

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Any musician who has a connection to their own unique sound and is committed to bringing it to the ears of the world.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Jam a lot, record everything.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I work on all kinds of music from classic rock to ambient electronica, but I personally enjoy creating and collaborating with electronic musicians because the possibilities of sound are truly limitless.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Being able to make something beautiful out of nothing. Tuning into a vibe and juicing it to its full potential.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: A strange almost alien perspective. i like juicy sounds and trippy melodies, one of my favorite styles is a juxtaposition between the dark and the light / minor and major... I like to take people into the depths, then rinse them off with starlight.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I've been a visual artist, musician, and animator for over 15 years. Something happened recently where I became so inspired with analog music production technology and more recently analog video tech. Experimentation and patience are some of my most used tools when it comes to creating music and visuals. I am happy that I made the trek into Analog Video / VHS in 2020 for processing after effects animations and filming, it adds such a nostalgic and 80s style warmth to everything (which I absolutely love). Analog video also goes great with analog music I've discovered (DUH).

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My studio is filled with analog synthesizers old and new, guitars, drum machines are my best friends (they are everywhere and so are patch cables and pedals), analog video equipment (lots of VHS cameras) and tons of tapes, micro-cassettes to VHS video tapes its all there!

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I love musicians who are able to capture real feelings and deep moods with their sound. I especially enjoy nostalgic sounds and the warmth of analog gear (tape hiss and background texture can be your friend). Ultimately I want to be transported to a place I've never know, or to a place I didn't know i forgot about.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I do a lot of animating and editing for my clients. I have a lot of functional VHS equipment and a lot of the times people want me to process images or video through it. I do a lot of analog video synthesis and feedback loops and I really enjoy it!
