Matty G on SoundBetter

I've produced over 500 songs and mixed and mastered over 300. Prominently working with high profile artists from Mozambique, I have produced; mixed and mastered 2 No.1 singles, a No. 1 album and several other top 10 songs.

I graduated from the Campus Of Performing Arts at the end of 2020, majoring in production and sound engineering, as well as vocals, guitar and music theory. Although I am an artist and musician myself, I am passionate about bringing others art and ideas to life.

I offer a variety of services, specialising, but not limited to, music production, mixing and mastering. This includes:

- Mixing a track from scratch
- Additional mixing/remixing
- Mastering
- A full arrangement/creation of an instrumental
- additional production on an exciting instrumental
- Editing (such as vocal tuning, time alignment etc.)

For inquiries please contact me via email. I don't regard any job as too big or too small.

Please request for audio samples if necessary.

Matty G is a producer I first came into contact with during my time at the Sound Engineering academy we were attending. Since then I've further developed my artistic avenues with production help from Matty G. This is a producer I trust with my work in collaboration and some whose expertise I highly rate. Throughout the years Matty G's sound engineering and production has proved to comply with industry standards whilst also bringing new innovation to the landscape of modern production.

Interview with Matty G

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I've been making and playing music since I was 13. I started with guitar and worked my way to doing production. I started studying music in 2017 and started working with other artist's later that year. I graduated in 2020 and now I'm a full-time producer and audio engineer.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: The first album I worked on that went No. 1 in Mozambique (the artist's native country) holds a special place in my heart, because it was a big step for me and a milestone I'll always remember. I was the executive producer and I mixed and mastered it.

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: Right now I'm in the final stages of three albums (late in the mixing process) as well as putting together two EP's which are currently in the production process.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital, although I believe analog can provide a more organic sound, analog equipment is expensive so my use of it has been very limited, so I'm more accustomed to digital.

  9. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  10. A: A guitar, a microphone, a laptop, an audio interface and headphones, my usual vacation set-up.

  11. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  12. A: I would love to work with Frank Oceon, Ry X, Nick Murphy, The Weeknd, Young Thug and Drake, simply because they are my favourite artists.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: Keep learning, no one knows everything. Also... don't over-compress.

  15. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  16. A: A professional standard of work and customer service. As well as the promise to do everything in my power to deliver a product that they are happy and satisfied with.

  17. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  18. A: Creation, and bringing other artist's creations to life.

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: I work predominantly on Hip Hop, Afrobeat and R&B. However I have a lot of experience with many other genres, like rock, pop, singer-songwriter, latin, country, house and alternative. I am open to anything.

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: My engineering is my strongest skillset, a number of artists choose to work only with me, for the mixing and mastering needs.

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: Creativity, texture, direction (if needed), the goal of bringing the artist's intentions of the song to life as well as professional mixing and mastering standards.

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: Depending on what is required my work process varies. For producing, I usually gather information from the artist on their dream of the final product and then begin the creative process using that direction, sometimes I am the one taking the initiative in the creation process, it differs from artist to artist. For mixing and mastering, the process begins with cleaning and tidying up the audio and then enhancing it, finalising the mastering process with the goal of clarity and power in mind. I then send it to the artist, if they have any revisions they would like to make, that is done until the product is final.

  27. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  28. A: I work on a Mac Book Pro, using Logic Pro X. I have a large library of third party plugins. I use an Apollo Twin X audio interface and KRK Rockit 6 for monitoring. I also have a wide array of instruments, namely: several acoustic/electric guitars, keyboards (including the Roli Seaboard Rise 49), piano, bass guitar, drums, alto saxophone, harmonicas, condenser microphones and a didgeridoo.

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: I am heavily inspired by several producers and a few engineers, my top spots would be reserved for Noah '40' Shebib, Timberland, Mike Dean, MixedbyAli and Rick Rubin.

  31. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  32. A: Typically I am commissioned to mix and master an artist's song or project, as well as produce instrumental compositions for artists. I have also served as executive producer for four albums. It is also common that I am requested to fix and attenuate audio.
