After graduating from Berklee College of Music, I spent most of my time at recording studios, record labels, movie sets and music venues around Los Angeles. My experience is diverse, having recorded everything from vocals, drums, guitars, even on-set dialogue, foley, and field recordings for sound effects. My mixing and mastering work has been heard through hundreds of millions of streams in trailers/promos for Disney, Warner Bros, Freeform, ABC, Marvel, and more.

Trevor is a VERY cool and trustworthy person with a very calm and easy to work with demeanor. (Which for me is the most important thing) He is also VERY skilled in what he does so this combination is why I continue to choose to work with him for recording and for mixing/mastering. As a vocalist he knows how to work with me to get the best take. I can tell he has had a lot of experiences working with vocalists because he was patient and new just the right tips and tricks to say to encourage me.

I hired Trevor to do sound design/mix audio on a 10 episode web series. Trevor was given a very short window to deliver the final product, and honestly, I could not be more impressed with what he came up with in that tight timeframe. It was extremely high quality across the board. Trevor is an amazing collaborator as he has a very sharp point of view that is creative, flexible, and very attuned to the type of project he's working on. Interview with Trevor Field

Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing and sound design. If source tracks aren't up to par, I will offer to re-record or re-design certain elements. A common example of that would be drum replacement.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My first full length album, on which I wrote, produced, recorded, and mixed. Because it's when you've taken your first steps that you gain the most ground.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: A pop/rock song, an ambient/electronic song, a hip-hop song, and a television promo.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, because they compliment each other like nothing else can.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Open, honest communication, and revisions until you're happy.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The feeling of joy and accomplishment when I've worked with someone to create or elevate a piece of art to a place that couldn't be reached on our own.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you fix this? My answer is usually yes, sometimes no. If no, I'll suggest an alternative.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That there are hard and fast rules for mixing, or that there is a single "right" or "best" way to mix a song. The best mix isn't always what I personally think sounds best - it's what the client thinks delivers their artistic expression best.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is the emotional goal for your song/project? What influenced your song/project? What do you like the most about what you have? What do you feel is lacking? Can I hear your rough mix and any reference tracks for how you'd like your song to sound?
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: MacBook Pro, Apollo Twin, some headphones, Shure SM7, and a Martin acoustic guitar.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started playing guitar and recording music over 20 years ago. Graduated from Berklee College of Music. Worked at major and indie labels, recording and post production studios. I'm happy to have had a pretty wide range of experience.

A: The song is king. So my style follows suit with what the song or client calls for.

A: Brandi Carlile, because she is magic.

A: Listen to you. Listen to your demo/rough mix. Listen to reference tracks. Mix or produce what's needed. Revise until you're happy with the final product.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Pro Tools, Logic, Reason. Monitoring by Focal, Mackie, Avantone. Outboard gear by UA, Avalon, API. I have acoustic and electric guitars, a vintage Rhodes, and way too many plugins.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Lianne La Havas, Common, Phantogram, Billie Eilish, Death Cab for Cutie, Snow Patrol, A Tribe Called Quest, Thrice, Coldplay, Trentemoller, Daft Punk, and many many many more.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Please have neatly organized files, tracks, etc, and a fairly clear idea of what you need or want. Reach out if you have any questions!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Have intent. It's essential to art & creativity. Make sure there is a purpose for every element in your song - from the lyrics and melody, to the reverb and the kick drum (or lack thereof!). The listener can always hear when intention is inconsistent or when purpose is missing.
