Interview with Giuseppe Lassandro

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm mixing a series of rearranged songs with a friend of mine

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: there's no a real answer to this question. I work with digital that often try to emulate analog and I've worked with analog "supporter" in the paste years which hated modern plugin and modern workflow. To all of you: "stop with this no sense war and focus on reaching the best from you"

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I will always do my best listening to all of your advices, and I'll pay you all of my respect and kindness

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: The opportunity to always listen new music and try new techniques

  9. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  10. A: Customers often ask to replicate a type of guitar/drum/bass sound, or that type of reverb on voice. My answer is that I will always do my best to make their desire possible but if that sound they want doesn't fit with the song I can't do anything, unless explore my ideas and reaching them

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: "Mixing is just moving faders and voilĂ , that's all"

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: be kind and always respectful with who you are working with, and try to be as accurate as possible in recording and providing tracks

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: To not be scared to work with mixing engineer with no famous name. Just give confidence to little producers and engineer, 'cause they probablly know what they are doing

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: Pc/Headphones/Audio Interface/My Desk I'll probably sacrifice my fifth piece of gear for a container full of water and food

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: Almost 2 years in mixing and mastering stuff and over 7 years like musician and live performer

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: I guess that mine is a modern style

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: One cool things I usually do to tame Bleed frequencies in room and snare spot mics is to place a Fab Filter MB as first plugin in my chain, setting the expand mode and a sidechain that looks to everything below 2000k. Attack and Release as fast as possible help me to have a more focused sound, reducing high frequencies in a more natural way

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: I'm usually work with rock and metal tracks, 'cause I like to give life to this genres. I like to work with more pop and commercial stuff to, 'cause I often need to get out of my comfort zone

  27. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  28. A: Creating modern guitar tone, I guess

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: I try to bring to a song a sense of glue and cohesion, trying to reach the right spot for each instrument

  31. Q: What's your typical work process?

  32. A: I'm usually set my project in order to start mixing drums, bass, guitars and voice, in my opinion the fundamental of a song. Then i process strings, fx and other "little" ambient stuff to make them sit all around the principal structure of the song.

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: I'm certainly inspired by other mixing engineers such as Nolly, Zakk Cervini, Taylor Larsson and Eyal Levi

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: I take their tracks and mix them in a full mixed and mastered song with lots of modern plugins. I can also turn midi drum and strings file into professional audio tracks thanks to renomate libraries (such as GetGood Drums, Addictive Drums, Spitfre libraries ecc). I'm also able to edit and adjust audio tracks and voice tracks

Terms Of Service
