Kristian Montano is the owner and operator of Montano Mastering, a world-class mastering suite based in Toronto, ON. Kristian’s passion for music started at a young age- kicked off by piano lessons from his mom- and has propelled him through his years as a student, touring musician and audio engineer.

His mastering credits include music from St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Aysanabee, Ciara, Finger Eleven, Dragonette, Bryce Vine, Fefe Dobson, Alex Porat, Rezz, Carys, The Strumbellas, Wild Rivers, Lights, BabyJake, Virginia to Vegas, Dear Rouge, and Daniel Romano, to name just a few. He has also mastered for Film and Television most notably for the original soundtrack of the movie BlackBerry, as well as the soundtrack for the new drama series Robyn Hood created by Director X.

With over a decade of mastering experience, Montano has become a JUNO award winning mastering engineer earning multiple Billboard #1 and CBC Chart Topping records. A: Both - hybrid BABY! I love working in both digital and analog realms - they each of a time and a place as well as unique benefits.

A: To serve their creative vision and emphasize the emotion of the song.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Listening to amazing music in front of dope speakers in a world class room all day every day. It doesn't get any better than that!

A: What do you prioritize in your song, in any combination of the following: - Dynamics - Balance - Loudness
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Presumably there isn't a well treated room on this island so I would bring my Audeze LCD-X.... And my: FCS custom mastering compressor Manley Massive Passive
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Communication.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have been building my set up for around 5 years. My new room is designed and calibrated by acoustics wizard Gerhard Westphalen featuring GIK Acoustics. My main monitors are KH-310s paired with stereo SVS-3000 subs. The room is phase and time aligned. For headphone monitoring and QC I use Audeze LCD-X and Sennheiser HD650 with custom FIR calibration to give a response closer to the Harman Curve.
