Interview with Skam R'Tist

What are you working on at the moment?
Currently working on my EP titled "Child Of Contradiction". Consisting of 20 tracks
What do you like most about your job?
The creative aspect of music is what keeps me going. I love the whole process of approaching a song in a unique way.
What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
They typically ask for a time frame for completion. I normally say a day or 2 and have been consistent with that
Analog or digital and why?
Analog gives a more authentic sound. Trained ears can separate the two
What's your 'promise' to your clients?
To be as punctual and professional as possible at all times
What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A lot of people think that all rap is ignorant club music. I operate in all facets of hiphop. Ive been told I remind people of old school rappers in a new school way
What questions do you ask prospective clients?
What's the song about? The deadline? do you want me to send my vocals on the beat, session file, or just vocal tracks?
What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
Just be passionate in your music. If you truly are then other passionate artists will gravitate towards that.
If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
a phone, as much water as I could carry, a knife a compass and a lighter.
What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
My career path is to just enjoy the music. Ive been involved with the process of rap since I was 10 years old. I have been self recording and performing since I was 15. I'm 29 now
How would you describe your style?
Lyrical with a confident voice
Which artist would you like to work with and why?
Bruno Mars! I think he has the talent to break through all genres of music and affect people.
Can you share one music production tip?
Loud doesn't necessarily mean better.
What type of music do you usually work on?
Hip-Hop and Rap
What's your strongest skill?
I'm a smart individual, I apply that throughout my music
What do you bring to a song?
Energy, experience, passion for perfection and true lyricism
What's your typical work process?
I listen to the beat, if the song has a topic, I will first brainstorm all of the things about that topic and then put those ideas in a rhyme pattern. Afterwards, I edit words and lines until it all flows smoothly.
Tell us about your studio setup.
I have an in-home studio set up... Voxguard, Mbox, Protools, Condenser microphone
What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem,
