Interview with Lasse Nymann

Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I would say the Resa Saffa Park album is the best work of mine so far. I play most instruments, except drums, and I've composed almost all of it and I'm super happy with the vibe and sound of the whole thing, super analogue, gritty indie music, just love it.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am working on an album for an artist called Resa Saffa Park, it's releasing in February. I've composed almost everything on the album, and produced it. I am also working on an EP for the Eurovision 2022 artist Elsie Bay.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Elsa Søllesvik is a good friend and collaborator, she delivers vocals and toplines with an amazing tone and sound quality.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog Synth - It's just what I find most inspiring - I like to turn knobs Digital mixing - super versatile, and can sound modern as well as super analog and vintage. And best bang for the buck.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You will ALWATS get everything on time, with as high quality as I can possibly provide.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The variation. I LOVE composing and designing sounds, i LOVE playing piano and guitar, i LOVE singing, and i aboslutely love to meet likeminded people and start new collaborations!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you help with_______? The answer is - I can write lyrics, melodies, compositions (piano, guitar, choir, orchestral, electronic), and I can record, mix and master to an industry standard, so the answer is most likely yes to any questions asked here on SoundBetter. The only thing I cannot do is to play drums professionally, but I could always hire a drummer and record him in my studio!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Take on big projects for almost no money.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: - Do you have a deadline? - Do you have lyrics/melody or both? - Would you need mix and master as well as recording and edit? - Do you have any musical references? - Can you send me a demo/soundrecording of any kind, to show me what it is you're looking to achieve? - What's your budget?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Ask me anything, I would love to hear everyones work and be able to be of help of ANY kind. The best results usually comes from some kind of musical vision, so don't hesitate would be my main advice, LIFE IS TOO SHORT.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Acoustic Guitar Upright Piano Drum Kit Amplifier Microphone
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been playing since I was 5. I've played piano and guitar my whole life. I went to LIPA(Liverpool Institute For Perfoming Arts in 2016-2020), and have been living off of music production and session work since then, playing on some of Oslo's biggest stages (Rockefeller/Jakobkirken/Chatau Neuf/Sentrum Scene).
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Gritty, nostalgic and genre bending.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Matt Corby, he's incredibly versatile and authentic in the way the express emotions though music and lyrics.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't think too much, make decisions based on how you feel about the music.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work with all types of clients within most genres of music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My ability to adapt to the clients needs, whether it's melody, lyrics og instrumentation, mix or master.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I'll bring whatever the song and client requires. I am originally a vocalist and pianist, so that's where I'd start a composition, whether it's vocals og instruments. Being a multi-instrumentalist, I'd be able to do most of the recordings of a full production song myself. That is both for electronic music, as well as acoustic.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I'll have a conversation with my clients and discuss what they want, and I'll include them in the creative process of getting their product to industry standard quality, in any area of expertise that I set in motion - Lyrics, recording, composition, mixing and/or mastering.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup professional, based in Oslo. Professionally designed soundproofing with top tier, industry standard music equipment (See list of equipment)
